The pass code was left blank its not an actual wpa key that is needed for those that had this phone when it first came out like me we had this discussion in mike's thread about wifi tethering he digged deep within the system files but found that the actual setting file for the wireless radio had no encryption code at all. so you have no choice to root the phone plus i dont see why you wont do it you can always factory reset to unroot. plus i believe their last root had a unroot function?\

check the journey out here lol

OK, hang in there, i think i found something else that looks promising.

@@@EDIT@@@@

BINGO!!!!!!!!
I was just able to change the SSID for the hotspot and disable the security encryption.

instead of adding the stuff to the security table I changed:
mifi_ap_ssid_1 in the system table.

now when I turn on the hotspot, it shows up as "Mikes 4G HotSpot" instead of AndroidAP and is open so it doesnt ask for any encryption key.

I am able to connect to the hotspot but it doesnt seem to be performing any DHCP to issue IP's to the connecting devices

Once again, we are not allowed to talk *here* about wifi tether solutions, since it is currently against the wishes of the forum owner, and thus against forum policy.
Please use the search function, to find old threads detailing tethering solutions, ie contact Rob (forum owner) directly, it through one of the tether discussion threads. Sorry. :(

oh thanks for reminding me tiede lol good thing i didnt post anything that wasnt already posted in the subforum.

cuz the topic was about the wpa encription code rather than how to unroot plus you never asked? You gotta understand having a phone rooted means having the rights to use superuser.apk which is just an app that gives super user rights to any modifications to your phone. now this is totally different from having a custom rom installed and wanting to go back then u would need to do a recovery to stock rom, if u did a recover for ur stock rom that is.
