hi everyone...

i THINK, i have a virus problem on my work desktop computer... i cant get rid of it.. even using anti virus scanners.

it has a random phantom commercials running in the background.
it is only sounds.. no videos.
sometimes, i can hear 2 to 3 commercials running at the same time.
I can hear it.. and it is on and off.. now and then...
cant find any running applications..
no active cookies..
this even happens right after i reboot my PC.. without me running any programs.

sometimes.. the audio driver .. will just disappear..
Clicking on the speaker icon to change volume, gets an error..
i have to reboot my PC to have it working again.

i am trying to trace down where i might have gotten this virus.
so.......... has anyone here seen this issue? and how did you fix/get rid of it? I am thinking.. i have to wipe my harddrive completely....and start over.

From the forums...No
From Chris Chavez...Probably
:nurse:

Hope this post doesn't offend anyone. I just like giving CC & hard time. Keep up the good my friend!!!

hhhmm....

they say it might be an add-on..
but.. it is not the root cause.. something else is causing the malfunction of the add-on.

I have never gotten a virus from the forums. I have gotten them from going to other questionable sites though. I like to frequent a lot of craft sites to get ideas for projects to make, and strangely enough, a lot of them Avast will warn me that they are known malware sites...craft sites, who knew?

Any sites that have advertisements (using an ad company) are susceptible. Which is why I use a custom host file on my PC so that they are blocked before the browser ever opens.

Along with your regular virus and malware scanners, you can tighten up your system security even more, and do it for free, with these:

Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File

OpenDNS - Cloud Internet Security and DNS

Or, you can take it one step further and just install VirtualBox and surf the web with that.

https://www.virtualbox.org/

Boot into safe mode w/ networking (hit F8 at startup) and run Malewarebytes (after updating virus definitions)

moved to Computer section

i had already did that with a different virus scanner.. in safe mode.
but it had not helped..

would Malewarebytes make a difference???? why????

Or... You could take it a step further even than that and really be sure you're safe. :p

You know I think about doing this when I am in linux ubuntu working with the console and when I type the command: "sudo apt-get update" and the computer returns an answer "No"

This will be the day my 2000 machine gets acquainted with my baseball bat I keep under my bed!

++5 on Malwarebytes. Awesome app. I have it on all our windows computers Also if you have avast you can run it from boot (before crap loads up) and it can detect more issues since none are in memory to "fool" it.

If u have running on windows you can search for windows virus remover it's free. All u have to do is download, install, put ur computer in safe more and run it might take a while depending on ur hard drive but it is worth it. It removes it for u. Also any website without www. And http. Are usually sites that could harm ur computer.

I repair computers and I work with any tipy of windows computers so don't be afraid of hitting me up @ charkle559hernandez@Gmail.com

Another recommendation for Malwarebytes. Have used it for years along with Avast and have never had a problem (knock on wood). My dad had a problem with his new laptop and between, Malwarebytes, Avast, and CCleaner, we got his laptop running like a champ.

I'm sorry but how can you have a site without http?????

And just cause a site doesn't have 'www' in it doesn't mean anything. THIS site doesn't have 'www' in it ;)

Does that mean that *this* site is the source?

;)

Nahh I'd bet that OPs virus came from some other site, or a download (maybe drive by). And plus one to custom host files and noscript.

Some adds used within a web page will pop up a new window when u click it. Some of those windows won't have http or www on the address. When they don't its a high chance that the web page has a virus or Trojan within the page so as soon as u click it will try to steal ur identity. Learned it from one of my professors.

Oh not all those sites are harmfull like this site but ur virus protection won't notice till after u click on it

most wont a lot of malware programs out that wont pick it up either. It's just like anything else you have to use protection but thats only a part of it. You also have to be discriminatory about what your hitting. Making sure that this is what you want to do. As long as parents allow their children to live with them and not have any kind of job and all those grown kids have to do all day is make viruses then we will not be rid of them. Most sites that we get "virus' from are nothing but victims themselves. They got hacked and have no idea this is there. Again covering all your angles. If you know you got a virus from a site then you should inform them respectfully. Let them know that someone broke into their system and is hurting their customers that gets attention a lot quicker than you sob's your crappy site virused my computer

I haven't really been on here for long, but no, I haven't got a virus from here or any other forums. Also, have you tried an Ad Block?
