has anyone gotten it yet?

to anyone who was worried by my video/post.... i figured it out.

GoSMS (a stock messaging app replacement) was causing the issues. (i used it on my thunderbolt with no problem) phone is running completely smooth still a few times it drops data/LTE completely for no reason but no freezing or reboots now that gosms is gone. guess its just not built for 2.3.5

Phew, glad to hear you got that sorted. I saw the video in a search for anything Stratosphere related and freaked out over having to wait for more reviews.

Beyond that, how are you liking it?:)

EDIT: Your data issues could be because VZW's having LTE issues today.

So is this basically a Charge with better battery life, because I think I can get it for free compared to $200 for Bionic. Wife is unsure about the keys but her D1 is on its last legs.

Glad you figured it out. I had a feeling it was that app when you mentioned it. I've never used it, but I've seen some apps that can cause the phone to run really bad.

I don't know what the battery life is like on the Charge, but I do have to mention that the battery life on the Stratosphere is "not great." With normal usage, I can go a full day on a charge, but the first two days I got the phone were definitely heavier than "normal usage" and I was on Power Saving Mode (which I set at 10%) by 5pm. I would say that it gets about 80% of the battery life that I was used to on my original Droid.

Which I'm okay with, because it obviously has a lot more things to use power... With the battery a little bigger, it might be a bit better than the Charge, but if you use the keyboard a lot, I could see the keyboard backlight draining that little bit of extra battery power...

The aux power (cigarette lighter) in my car doesn't work, so I can't use a car charger - I've always gotten by with my Droid charging at home and sometimes at work. I'm pretty sure that will be fine with the Stratosphere too. But I always carry an extra cord/plug with me for emergency charges. (If you're thinking about buying an extra cord from VZW, go to monoprice.com first, it's like 10% of the price.)

3 days into having this phone, and i'm still getting used to it. not having LED notification is bugging the crap outta me. i have 5min audio/vibrate reminder notifications, but i miss just being able to glance at my phone and see if there's anything waiting for me. i'm getting better/faster using the physical keyboard, but still not as good as i was with my d1. also, sliding the damn thing open is AWKWARD. i feel like i'm gonna fling the thing across the room everytime i open my phone. one huge pro though, this thing is zippy fast zooom!

Oh dear...that LED light not being there would drive me batty. I am SO confused. My daughter is working so hard at trying to get me to go iPhone 4S instead. I know we don't have 4G at the house. I think I'm going to spend some quality time with Jack at the Verizon store tomorrow!

When I used an iPhone 3G, it didn't have any LED notification. Dunno if the 4S has changed that at all.

For me, the Strat is a stopgap to a Droid 3/4 LTE.

Just got the Stratosphere tonight - coming from a Samsung Fascinate. It is very fast and the physical keyboard is great (I use for work, so lots of emails). It is a bit on the thick side, but, I am fine with it so far. Very responsive and screen is vibrant. No complaints!

I got it and really like it. Upgrading from the Droid Eris and it blows it away speedwise. I can run angry birds now. Using it with Launcher Pro and things are great so far. One annoying quirk though, is that when I get a phonecall, the first few notes of the ringtone are played extremely quietly before it comes up to regular volume. It has a negative impact on my "Feed My Frankenstein" ringtone. I mentioned it elsewhere, but want to know if anyone else is seeing the same thing. Hopefully if multiple people are seeing this samsung may fix it. Thanks.

I ordered this phone on Monday by calling verizion it was time for a upgrade I got the phone yesterday and I find it hard to put down I just love this phone. I have had no problem with the phone it works great.

I'm glad to be hearing so many good things about this phone! Coming from a Motorola Devour (one of the shittiest Android phones of all time) this will be a fantastic upgrade!

One thing I've been wondering, coming from the Devour I absolutely hate a locked bootloader or a difficult root process. How does it look on the Stratosphere? Bootloader locked down or what's up? No rush to find out though, I can only upgrade in December.

It's wide open, no encryption, no lock. Hopefully that will allow me to get a custom recovery on there (or at least a hacked insecure version of whats on there now) and get root rolling. :-)

For what it's worth, I came across the following review from Laptop Magazine (dated 10/20/11):

Samsung Stratosphere Review | 4G LTE Android Smartphones

I've personally tested out the physical keyboard a couple times. Relative to the Droid 2, it has a better feel (Droid 2 has a stiff keyboard IMO) but it also has some unusual button placements/second functions. I'm picky about being grammatically correct when I type, and one of the big negatives of the physical keyboard IMO is that commas require you to shift. I'm also not a fan of the small enter button.

As a basic phone user switching over to a Smart Phone i must say i love it so far. Did the 2 year upgrade online w/ VZW and it arrived yesterday. Quite the learning curve but i am loving it so far.

I am interested in a case that is made for the Infuse size. Do you think the Stratosphere will be be able to fit just fine?
Its the SAMSUNG I997 INFUSE 4G Genuine Leather Flip Case - Black being sold on Amazon.

Thanks.

just by glancing briefly at the pictures, it doesn't appear that the cutouts are even placed the same way...

If you are looking for cases.. look at the Sprint Epic 4g.. the Stratosphere is basically exactly the same phone
