i was going to order one off the internet but i heard that it only shows apps on your tv not video. is this true? (yes... i searched the forums) lol

no, it only shows videos or photos in slideshow mode.

well i have a pc hooked up to my hdtv so i guess that would make the cable pointless. i did read in another thread (http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/87915-usb-video-out.html)
that you could use the usb with coding but i don't know anything about that. i think it is for rooted phones.

the main thing i like about is the slideshow etc. i just had a kid so of course everyone wants to see pics and videos. i can just load all my pics and videos to a folder on the mem card and then when i get to the persons house or they come to mine and can just plug it in and share a little slideshow etc of my kid. beats carring pictures around and having the family etc have to pass photos around.

I loaded a few 720p movies and used it when I washout of town for the 4th to watch movies rather than going out and renting some and it worked great
