Help Hate to press power button to "unlock". how to turn off?

Hello all.

I'm new to the Droid OS phones.

I just got a new HTC Thunderbolt.

I like the phone, but I HATE having to hit the power button all the time to "unlock" it. (Got the silicone case and it's just a pain to do, especially "one handed" while driving).

Is there anyway you can disable the "power button to unlock" the phone? I googled through other forums and haven't found a clear answer for the THUNDERBOLT yet.

tried an App called "No Lock", but there appear to be different versions of it and the HTC phones weren't really supported I found out afterwards.

Is there any setting or App that disables this?

I know I can go to SETTINGS --> DISPLAY SETTINGS --> SCREEN TIMEOUT and set to "Never Turn Off".

but does doing this really wear down the battery? (I'm assuming it does).

Thanks for helping a THUNDERBOLT newbie.

Mike

yes, leaving the screen always on will kill the battery faster. there's only 2 other ways to do it- get an app that works, or root the phone and load a custom rom that bypasses the power key.

btw, the reason for the auto-lock is 2fold.... no pocket dialing risk, and battery save.

The no lock app should work fine.. I have "BoD No Lock v1.05" and works perfectly. Try setting the widget up and see if that helps.

Ya I have nolock too. Got the program the first day I got the phone. I find the slide lock useless and this phone eliminates all locking so you can turn your phone on by just pressing the volume buttons. But let's be realistic, this is a f'ing touchscreen. You're not gonna accidently dial anyone or accidently touch anything like if you had a blackberry. Not sure if this affects the battery life at all but i've been using this since I got the phone and it seems alright.

i was wondering how you would unlock the device... ^^ cleared it up for me!

might check this app/widget out!

not necessarily, if the lining in your pockets are thin enough, you could accidentally dial someone, or start your music player in the middle of a meeting(this happened to me one time) and having the volume rocker turn your screen on could definitely keep your screen on in your pocket all day which would murder your battery. I would suggest, that if hitting the power button on the phone to unlock it is such a pain, that maybe you try a smaller device. that would make it much easier to reach and perhaps not as much of a PIA.

I've never accidently done anything on the phone because it requires you to accidently press teh volume buttons and within 15 seconds, somehow press the right area on your giant screen.

Now what would be useful and seeminly intuitive would be to just give us the ability to elimitate the slider lock and only have a password/pin/pattern lock. What's the point of having 1.5 locks vs 1 lock? absolutely nothing.

No Lock works perfectly on my T-Bolt. You have to enable it, and then you can unlock using your volume keys or the power button without having to slide to unlock afterwards.

which "no lock" app do you get ? (and from where?)

I tried one in downloaded from marketplace but it seemed to have no effect.
