Root have done something silly???

Hi guys and gilrs,
decided today to do the whole root thing on the pad, all went well, loaded z4root and turned out was already rooted, ideal,
so! downloaded tims rom tothe computer, popped the mempory card out the side, but no sign of a Root directory anywhere on it! so thought i'd pop the card out the pad and check that, opened it al up, carefully and safely, popped the card out and put it in the reader ont he netbook, search as much as i could No root directory anywhere! on opening the card up had a winzip folder and 3 other sections, checked space on it and turned out to be only 140mb on the card! - meant to be a 4gb,
so copied the files off the card to the netbook, formatted the card and checked again, 140mb, got my 4gb card i'd been using in the pad for music etc and formatted that, copied the files over to it and put it in the pad, turned it on and sits on the android man in the middle of the screen, nothing more,
turned off, popped the card out and removed the tims rom bits and put it back, got the same,
stuck now!
and somehow the 140mb card has dissapeared!! feeling the littlun picked it up and put it somewhere?? trying to find it is pure needle in haystack time lol!

Is there a way i can format a card, put firmware on it, plug it in and return the pad to normal?????

Wow, I'm trying really hard not to smile here, but seriously, you got the totally wrong end of the stick on what you needed to do. Jeesh, a real whoosh moment there kiddo.

The root directory is not called "root" on the card, the directory does not exist in name, it is there by default, the uppermost directory in any computing structure is called "root".

On your windows machine, the C:\\ directory is the root directory of C:, C:\windows is called windows, the one above that (ie the C:\\) is called the root folder of C:, say your SD card was called L on your PC, then L:\\ is the root directory of L:. Hope that is clear enough?

So when you downloaded the zip file, you unzip the file on your computer to get 2 more files, you copy those 2 files to the SD Card L:\\ (not in any folder - just L:\\, which is the root folder)

Right, so how do you fix your now new problem?

imo, get a nice new card of your size & class choosing, imo a 16gb class 10 card would be fantastic.

Put that card into your FT (as you seem to be ok with doing this already, no further advice needed here lol)

On another different SD Card, put the files from the extracted tim5a rom zip file directly ontot he sd card, put this card into the tf slot into your FT, power up and it will install tim5a rom onto your FT automatically.

Please, if I have not made something clear enough - ask the question before doing it :)

haha, yeah did get a little bit confused with it all! oooops!
so formatted and clean 4gb card (empty) put in the pad, powered on but still only the android man screen, - currently cant find another free card to stick in the sd card slot on the side,

have tried it with the old info on it, and with it completely fresh but still get it just sitting on the android man screen! (assuming the android creature is a man ofcourse!!!)

i desperately want to find the pther card so i can ruin a program through it to find its proper size, but no idea where it is! i do really think my 1 year old may have had it and eaten it!!! eeek!

OK - the card you put back into the pad has had its system files removed, by you, so of course it will power up but not boot up - it needs the system files being put back on - you can only do that on another card with those files from tim5a on it, when you put that card with those files on it onto the tf slot on the pad, then power up - the pad will re-write back it's system files to the internal sd card so you can then boot up as normal.

You can then remove the card from the tf slot (and only the tf slot) and remove those firmware files off that card so that it does not keep re-flashing everytime you use that card in the tab.

So yes - you need 2 SD cards to continue from here, 1 inside the tab which should never be removed after this, and the one you can use over & over again for files that uses the tf slot.

Again, if it isn't clear enough - please ask for clarification.

okay, thats brilliant!! will go and raid the mp3 players!!!! must have one somewhere!!
thanks again for your help matey!
will report how i get on!!!

That was quickly sorted by you, well done :)

Now don't forget to remove the firmware files off the sd card in the tf slot before anything, or else it will keep reflashing itself after every boot.

And keep asking questions, the only stupid question is the one never asked.
