Help Have Froyo now GPS not working

Jacus0

Lurker
Well i was able to update to Froyo and reroot my phone, but theres a new issue....

GPS no longer working. GPS test finds nothing and Google maps never locates me. any ideas on what i should do?:(

i think if u download samsung gps restore from market and run it ...it may fix ur problem. I heard many people having gps prob after froyo update got theirs fixed by that app. hope it works for too.

ok so i tried the GPSRestore, and it a partial fix.

works out side for the most part, but when you go indoors it starts sucking the big one...
google maps use to ball park your location, now it just gives up

GPS is not designed to work while you're inside. If you look in your settings, it says something about a clear sky. It's RF and almost any obstruction can and will keep you from getting a lock.

Thanks for that tip. It gets me an instantaneous lock now as well as all sattelites used on the GPS test!

My GPS was fair before the 2.2 update and now it doesn't work at all and everything I tried with the LBS settings does not seem to get it working. (unrooted Captivate)

Stand outside on a clear day and try it then. Inside a home, under a tree, when it's cloudy outside, etc....things like that generally hinder a connection.

The GPS component of the device won't ever be what it should have been out of the gate. All you'll derive from tweaks, improvements, enhancements, and various other euphemisms for putting lipstick on a pig is something that simply sucks less for some, more for others.

I am in the same boat as the OP...

had my captivate less than a month. GPS only thing not working. Completely failed to get a signal.

Upgraded to 2.2. Still no GPS

Loaded samsung GPS repair app. Still no GPS lock.

This has got to be a hardware problem. Taking mine back today- but won't leave store until I see GPS does work (not looking forward to all the reloading of apps, contacts, etc. etc.)
