Root have questions about 2nd init

Big Oil

Newbie
i cant find a lot of information on this and dont want to do something that will turn in to a chance for learning that im not prepared for. so im on liquid smooth 3.0 and understand that is a 2nd init rom. i want to flash other roms but get the idea that you have to sbf if you want to leave the 2nd init world. it also sounds like the 2nd init process uses more battery. this is true from my experince. the liquid smooth rom is super fast and has a lot of features i like but i see alot of people talk miui up. that is also a 2nd init rom if im not mistaken so flashing it should be easy.

just trying to understand what i can get away with before i get carried away here......so if anyone can shed some light on this for me thast would be helpful
thanks
ken

I may be wrong but i think you can jump from one 2nd init Rom to another 2nd init Rom....maybe a guide will chime in on that. But if the ROM says to apply from .602 then yeah you'll have to SBF.

Last night i was on CM7GB (2nd init) and I jumped straight to Apex. After i did a factory reset to clear the boot loop up everything was fine and has been ever since.

Don't' let the SBF process scare you it really is not that hard. Once you do it you'll realize that. Do you have Titanium Backup Pro? If not get it. So you can make backups of your apps in case something goes wrong. I usually set mine up to do weekly backups on late Sunday nights while i'm asleep.

Anything else you need to know just ask. There is great support here.

i have titanium back up but i have payed for the pro yet. i believe it is the gd kernel. i came from the 4.5.605 ota update. i think it might be time to try miui rom. is the battery life any better. if i back up my rom in rom manager and dont like miui can i just restore the last back up of liquid smooth 3.0 or do i have to reflash the rom? and would that restore the phone to the way it was with apps and everything? would that be where titanium buck up came in

Hey VS or Trophynuts, isnt the new ssx a 2nd init rom as well? i dont see it in the roms list on the thread page and was just wondering..Trophy uve been pretty busy between this thread and the Nexus thread huh? lol

yeah a few of us have lol

SSX is on the list i just looked. Check again

Im currently using vortex and pretty happy with it, but kinda getting bored with it..have you herd anything good from the new ssx? Like batt or performance over vortex

yeah any rom that i see or comes by me gets added, i dont take it off unless its an old based rom, then it goes onto the 2nd page, which soon alot of those roms will be as well

if he is on cm7 with gb kernel or miui for gb kernel, he can move to ANY rom for .602 and .605 only

I just flashed MIUI over CM7 lastnight. Got tired of a few glitches in CM7. Just be sure to wipe everything before and after you flash over to another 2nd init rom (data, cache, dalvic).

I happen to think MIUI has the most to offer in the way of battery life and features. But that's just me. I left the Defy base though and I am now on the 1.9.30. It seems smoother than the Defy base.

I was on Miui for GB .602, great rom, I just missed my Star Wars theme so I restored my nandroid backup of Mobile Sensei v3 so I could run the R2D2 theme again. As long as the 2 int rom you are using is for say GB .602, then you can move back and forth between 2 int roms and regular roms that are for GB .602, without having to do an sbf.

Where the problem came in, was the original 2 int rom's were based on Froyo and you did have to do an sbf to move from a 2 int rom (Froyo version) to a regular Gingerbread rom or vise versa.

i got bored with miui, so im on cm7 now, tonight, i may be on a moto based rom.. but who knows, what i think i will do is once i hear of the release status of the nexus i will sbf the phone, and then take the ota, and just leave it stock not rooted for a while (3 days before the phone is released that is, if its on verizon)

Will it reverse the 2nd init process when jumping from a 2nd init .605 to a regular .605 rom? Cougar..hows things going man?

no it wont, they are still based on the gb kernel, so you can go from a 2init rom to a .605 rom, then back to a 2init rom and you will be fine

Hmm, and i was kinda scared of the whole 2nd init thing cause i thought for sure id screw up somewhere!! So as long as i dont load a froyo rom or a .596 rom i b good?

I believe what he's asking VS is if a regular Rom will maintain the 2nd init process on a standard .602/.605 Rom. The answer is no. The 2nd init process is specific to the 2nd init Roms.

Once you flash back to a regular .602/.605 Rom you will no longer have the 2nd init process. You do need to download GAPPS for CM7. I can't remember if you have to for the other 2nd init Roms, it's been too long since I flashed anything else. You don't need a gapps download for MIUI. It's built in.

And lastly i'm doing much better tsargent thanks largely to VS. He, more than anyone else, actually saved my life. But I won't go into those details.

Google Apps. It's your market, Gmail, Maps, etc. You won't have any of those apps without downloading the separate gapps file. You flash the gapps file in ClockWorkMod recovery just like any other Rom file.
