Help Have to update data plan for Inspire?

There are quite a few threads on this very topic. Yes, you need a new data plan for the "4G" phones. But, they have an unlimited option as well.

You may have to jump a few hoops to make this happen. Many of us have lost our unlimited plans and some of us have lost data altogether. Your best bet is to visit your local AT&T Corporate Store and have them fix it for you if you get the Inspire.

did you lose your unlimited data due to an upgrade? was planning on buying at no contract price and just insert my sim card. i do that now with my captivate and torch.

I bought my Atrix as a no contract purchase from the AT&T Premier website. It should have been a simple matter since there was no upgrade involved. Unfortunately, they extended my contract, dropped my unlimited data, and dropped my data plan altogether.

It took some phone calls and a trip to the AT&T store but they fixed everything and my unlimited data was restored.

My purchase of the Inspire was simple. I just upgraded another line that never had a data plan. There was nothing for them to mess up. :)

I currently have an Unlimited data usage for a NON smartphone....and i believe i pay $10 a month with the family data bundle. and i am an extremely heavy user when it comes to my data. honestly i have a limited income and i plan on buying the Inspire 4g on Saturday through best buy. I will beg Best Buy or ATT(if i have too visit their store) or do whatever else it takes to keep that data plan that i currently have. any tips? anything would be extremely helpful fellas!!

unltd data on a non smartphone cannot be turned into an unltd data plan for a smartphone. so that is not an option for you. you will have to choose between the $15/$25 plans now offered for smartphones. I was able to keep my unltd smartphone data plan when i upgraded and so did my husband, but at this point if you are moving from non smartphone to smatphone unltd data is no longer an option

my cousin had a samsung impression with the $10 unltd plan got the inspire saturday and had to choose a new data plan. (she went to an ATT corp store)

Grandfather for All!!
Ok, I'm so very irritated with ATT, that I will let you guys in on suspension I had about a grandfather loophole. I had an iphone 1st-gen, upgraded to inspire and got to keep my unlimited data @ $30. My gf has never had any data of any type and she had some old ass LG. So I thought why not upgrade her to my old iphone, hehe. So I took her LG sim put into my old iphone, but it was recognizing it as a new sim so I had to connect it to itunes, to make the phone usable.

I'm sync the phone to itunes with her old sim, and it prompts me to register the phone as new service or existing line. I chose the later cause she already has service with attsux. Further on the process I am forced to pick a data plan, she can't just use the phone without a data plan even though it was a hand me down. And the only data choice was the original $20data/200msg plan from the first gen iphone. So I chose it, and concluded that if I were to upgrade her the next day, she would show unlimited data on her account. This process did not renew her 2yr or affect her upgrade timeline.

Well now that this story has gone on and on. In conclusion we got her an Atrix today and was grandfathered in as if she had had an iphone from day one. No glitches or questions. We confirmed this at the attsux store, but went to targed to get the phone instead saved $100 over attsux store. So there you go, hope you guys did not fall for I'll buy your piece of shit iphone 1 for $100 from someone who was already onto this loophole and is prob charging people $$$$ to flash their sims on his iphone 1 to get grandfathered.

I did a lot of research on the unlimited plan for Inspire and other new Android or Windows phones. I visited corporate stores and was told different things each time but I called 611 and escalated it to an account manager for my employer since we get an employee benefit of discounts on some parts of service when we have a personal phone. The account mgr. called me back gave me the policy.
If you have the unlimited smartphone data plan and you call 611 and talk it over they can, with little difficulty it seems, let you stay in that plan.
If you had an unlimited data plan not for a smartphone (I had one of those but really had a smartphone on it..) then you are out of luck.
$30 unlimited data = you're good to go
$10 unlimited data = R.I.P. to the good old days.

Now I will see just how far 2 Gb goes when you "backdoor" tether.....

That's what several of us have been saying along . . .

You would have to had a unlimited SMARTPHONE data plan previously to be eligible to transfer it to the Inspire.

Dumb phones or non-smartphones WILL NOT QUALIFY...

Others say they have convinced AT&T to place them on the "Personal Data for Smartphones" Plan ((unlimited)) when they weren't already on an unlimited plan..... I'm not buying it . .
