Help Having difficulties transferring pictures from phone

First of all, I have a Verizon S4 and using a MacBook Air with OS X Mavericks. I have Android File Transfer and USB debugging enabled. My phone is also rooted (just to disable that annoying update reminder). Whenever I try to access the 'Camera' folder through Android File Transfer, I get an error saying "Can't access device storage." The odd thing is, I can access every other folder and file without any issues. Anybody have any ideas on what the problem could be?
