Having your voice mail code entered automatically

yea, the pauses suck donkey balls.. It's hit or miss.. My programmed VM code will either shoot out right away or not at all and the friggin call hangs up! $%^&
Stupid really.. Such a very basic phone function and it's buggy as hell. Root or Froyo FTW to fix this

To program your voice mail code so you don't have to enter it every time you check your voice mail:

menu>settings>call>voicemail settings>voicemail number>
If your code is 7777, this is how you would program it: *86p7777#p1

The p stands for pause. Once you program this, all you have to do to check your voice mail is hold down the 1 button on the phone and the phone will do the rest.

I'm pretty new to smartphones. This is one of my favorite tricks.

This sounds great but when I go to Voice Mail Settings there is no option for voice mail #. Any other suggestions?

I have a google voice account but still want to use my verizon phone #. Can I still use their voicemail to text/email feature without giving out my google voice #??

My girlfriend has tmobile and her voicemail has an option that does not require her to input a password as long as she checks it from her handset. I tried fishing through the menus in voicemail but obviously it does not support this feature or you all would not be discussing this shortcut?

Thanks OP....I already give VZ enough of my money and I don't mind getting my messages from the voicemail feature on the phone. Your tip was appreciated.

Just an FYI, that Google Voice is open to all now! I jsut installed it on my phone and LOVE IT. I never have to give my 'real' number out!
havent gotten around to actually trying this, appreciate the OP's info but will prolly just stick with old fashion method, rather not have my password displayed, just my $0.02

normally people aren't looking over my shoulder reading my stuff lol.

I use google voice, but I turned off all background data and syncing to save battery life, so I'm not sure if I'll actually get notified of new messages automatically now.

I am also using google voice and LOVE the notification that plays the voicemail for me. However, I did find one problem with having Google Voice handle all of my voice mails...

You don't get them if you are out of a 3g or wifi network! I was camping all weekend and had cell reception and sent and received regular texts. But I didn't get all of my vm notifications until I was back in civilization. That's not too common so GV stays but it's still a negative.

Yeah I was in the exact same boat, which was why I was hesitant at first because I didn't want to deal with a new number. When you got to google.com/voice and log in using your gmail account, the first question it asks you is to register for a number, but there's a link that says something along the lines of "I just want google voicemail." Once you click that, just follow the steps, takes like 1 minute, and you're all set. Then you just need to download the google voice app on the phone and set up the voicemail setting so that google voice is active.

Yes. I do this. You just have to type some *codes into your phone to set your line for forward on no answer/busy/etc to your google voice number, which will then go straight to voicemail. Works great!

It's been a while since I've messed with pauses on any phone. Your tip works great, thanks!

Google Voice is very nice. You can still call your Google mailbox if you are out of 3g or wifi range. When you register, you receive a call in number for your voicemail. You can also enable text message and email notifications with Google Voice to ensure that there's no way you miss a voicemail. I <3 Google.

thanks. I have to do all 3 codes?

also where you say XXX is my google voice # you mean my different google voice #, not my cell phone # right?

just to confirm--i signed up for google voice a long time ago and it gave me a GV #. I only want to use my cell #

Old thread.. new question. Does anyone know if vanilla android 2.2 can be set to do this? I've been having some difficulty with it.
