Root Hboot 2.10.0001 Rootable?

evo4tim

Lurker
Ok, Santa left me the EVO 4G and I was all excited about rooting and having the ability to use the WIFI hotspot with my iPad and not shelling out an additional $30 a month.

Of course unrevoked does not work (tried and failed and then found many posted about that). SO with that said, is there another quick and easy process out there working with Hboot 2.10.0001 or am I too early as I noticed the release date is 12-15-10.

At this time my goal is to just get root ability so I can use the hotspot feature not to run any custom ROMs (maybe later :).

Does anyone know the status of unrevoked supporting this version or know of another easy root process?

Welcome to AF. Congrats on the new Evo :).

The Unrevoked team is currently working on an update. Follow them here for the most up to date info:

You can find most of the answers to your root related questions here:

You are correct that unrevoked doesn't work yet. This is currently your only option:

[ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02/2.10 SOFF - Merry Christmas Edition - Upd. 12.25.10 - xda-developers

I would not recommend this unless you really know what you are doing. I also suggest you have a look at this thread:

If you are going to follow the XDA method - and I agree with akazabam (his advice is consistently great, btw) - then maybe look at post 619 of the Rooting for Dummies thread. It makes nothing easier, only clarifies a point or two on the XDA method he mentioned.
