Root HBoot, CM7 and AlphaRev, confused.

Hi
I have rooted and s-off'ed my Desire using the noob guide on XDA. I flashed the Insertcoin ROM and more recently the SGBS. On both accounts I used the A2SD versions. Both worked ok.
Am I right in saying the CM7 versions will be quicker as some parts are stored on the internal memeory?
Am I also right in saying I need to flash the HBoot before I can use the CM7 versions?
If so, I'm confused by what to use to flash the HBoot. The AlphaRev site has a table about half way down the main page. Im confused by what the Download and PB99IMG colums are for? What file do I need?
Also, can I use Android flasher to flash the HBoot? Is this the best and safest way?
Thanks

Hopefully this will help. I'm not sure on your first query regarding cm7 and speed but would imagine so as cm7 is aosp.
You don't need to flash the cm7 hboot before using but there will be wasted space on the system part of you internal memory which if you flash the correct hboot can be put to good use for app / data storage.
And I have flashed my hboot using android flasher. Now if this is safer is a hard one, I think so as I'm not confident with cmd's but I'm sure others will say different.
The file you need to down load is the first one before the md5 checksum. But once you have downloaded make sure you do check the md5 as if you flash a bad download you can end up with allsorts of issues.

Just checked the download file is for use with android flasher and the pb99img enables you to flash from your Sd card. (As it says on the alphrarev website)

I don't think there is any noticeable difference.

No.

The download link is for img files to be flashed from fastboot - recommended . The PB* files are zip files to be flashed from recovery.

IMO flasher is GUI wrapper for fastboot and I think you must use fastboot directly initially at least to learn exactly what happens.

Actually these aren't used by recovery - it's the bootloader that applies a PB99IMG.zip.

To use the PB*.zip, place it on the root of your SD card and rename it to PB99IMG.zip (exactly that, it's case sensitive). Boot into HBOOT (hold the "volume down" key down while booting the phone) and wait a few seconds - it will ask you whether you want to apply the update, and if you say yes it will be done in a second or so.

Instructions for both methods can be found under the table on the alpharev site. Do make sure you are clear about the whole process (not just the actual flashing) before attempting either.
