Help HDMI & Charging: Not at same time?

Remember the craptastic USB/audio connection on the G1 and other devices?

Looks like though that one failed, another is being pushed with the HDMI/USB connector, so unlike the Moto devices, you can not charge and output to HDMI at the same time. HDMI out is a power drainer, so looks like folks are forced to buy a dock for the dual function.

Nexus is in the same boat too I think and so is my Flyer.

Sigh damnit, really? So this won't work? HTC AC M490 MHL Adapter It has an external charger. I hope that's not just driving the signal converter.

Point is one more thing to lug around. Same result as having to buy a dock, but about $20 cheaper. See? If the connectors were on there, no need to buy this. Stealth peripheral costs

OEM saves about 50 cents production cost and charges $30 for a $2.50 to make connector assembly

Razr has a small footprint and fit them. The base of the Droid 3 is even smaller than the Razr and fit them too.

The same as carrying around a minHDMI to HDMI cable. Even allows simultaneous charging using your phone charger.

More cables, slightly larger batteries so the phone performs like it should out of the box, a case to protect your phone, etc etc....
