Help HDMI port on htc evo 4g ?????'s

Lurker
I just purchased a sprint HTC EVO 4G from the store. I have the Netflix app downloaded and just bought the mini HDMI cord to standard HDMI to plug into tv. I see ppl in other threads call them selves newbies well in my case i am a Fetus when it comes to any of what i have been reading and am not understanding much of it at all. My goal is to watch my Netflix app on my TV and i had watched a few youtube videos saying to download HDMwIn i did this and when i plug my cord in and try to mirror it says cable not detected and that is as far as i can get. i have since then removed the HDMwIn app and am now at a loss. I only got this phone just for this option which i thought would have been plug and play but i was apparently wrong. Is there anyone that can help me with my dilemma?, I work on cars not phones so im am as lost as a Honda at a Volkswagen car show. Any help would be appreciated even if its letting me know that im screwed in my ventures here thank you, Crash650y

unfortunately, the og evo can't mirror apps like that. it will work on youtube and the videos that you take on the evo can mirror to the tv. there used to be an app by teamwin that allowed you to mirror whatever is on your evo with no issues. however, gingerbread ruined that.....so now the only way is to root the phone.

I see, that is what i was afraid of. I just dont trust my tech skills to go that far into my phone without messing something up. i guess the best i could do is see if i could find someone that has done this before and let them take a shot at it at this point. i've been going through as many of these threads as possible for about the last 5 hours and i think maybe ive just overwhelmed myself a bit maybe ill come back at it a little at a time and see if i trust myself a little more lol, once the root is done how hard is it to achieve my goal for the mirroring?

Rooting, is easy my friend and we can help you out.
When you get your mind relaxed and are ready, check out this thread on rooting.

Don't let it overwhelm you, we will be here.
And after you root, you can flash a custom rom/kernel that will allow you to do what you want and more.
:)

Edit: if someone like me, a tire repairman/mechanic can do it, so can you :)

sounds like a plan, i appreciate it very much. i do plan on getting this done so i will def be back with some more ?'s at some point here in the very near future. thanks again and i will be in touch :)
