HDMI to HDTV issues

Im having some trouble watching some movies on my hdtv, i converted the movie from avi to mp4 using handbrake converter and am only getting sound but no picture. has any1 experienced this issue?
 
I'm betting it's not an HDMI issue. Are you getting any video on the builtin screen?

I know that my Evo is really finicky about the video format. I use the Legacy Classic preset and change the Avg Bitrate on the Video tab to 1500. That's the only change I make and it works pretty reliably.
 
For some reason I think I read somewhere that you could only view the pics and vids taken by the phone and some people claim youtube but nothing else through the hdmi out for the time being

yep on the evo screen i get picture and sound just fine, when i connect it into my hdtv thats when i get ONLY audio. im gonna try your settings to see if it works. one question, with handbrake i know you have to pick the video source which is the movie, and then you have to pick a destination file. couldnt i just make the converted video file go to desktop? i think its kinda forcing me to pick a specific file
 
Yeah, I'm pretty sure there's a thread about HandBrake encoding already. Here's what my Advanced tab looks like - and this has been getting me good results: (everything else is like the "normal" setting i think. Oh, and you can change the "Width" to 800px, and "Loose" for the Anamorphic setting

It's supposed to be anything in your gallery (according to the article you and I read). Which would include videos you put on the phone.
 
having trouble playing my mp4 files that i converted from avi using HANDBRAKE.

example on one of my vids:
142.2 mb
Dimensions 1280 x 720
Codecs H 264, AAC
Duration 03:26
Channel Count : 2
bit rate: 5,804

audio on the vid works well but it just doesnt play, any suggestions

You should read the handbrake thread in the tips and tricks forum.

I grabbed a 720p movie trailer from the web and tried to play it through the HDMI port and it didn
 
You need to use the itouch/iphone preset configuration on handbrake i had this problem until i figured that out.
