Ok I'm wondering what exactly the HDMI is good for? I'm wanting to download movies on my X but I want to be able to hook it up to a TV and watch them when I go on trips. Iv found a cable that plugs into the 3.5 Jack but I was wondering what the HDMI cable is meant to plug in to and really what good is it for

I think the main original designed intention was to be able to show off home movies you've just recorded right off the phone onto a large flatscreen tv.

There's already an app in the store that allows you to play anything displayed on the phone through it now though.

I've used the hdmi port to display pictures, watch droid recorded videos, and watch movies that I have copied to the Droid from my dvds. You can't play the Digital copies of the movies that are sometimes included, because the Droid X doesn't support DRM protection. You will have to convert your dvds to .avi or .wmv files.

Or you can download the Real HDMI app, and you can display anything that is on your Droid X screen!

I'm not sure this is totally accurate as I have converted to MP4( h.264) and they also play.

I just meant that you will have to convert your dvd's to a NON-DRM format. Then you can play them on the standard video player, which displays over hdmi.

Any lcd or plasma in the last 4 years should have hdmi. I have a CRT that is like 5 years old that has one.

Is it only the new TVs tht have the HDMI port?

I jsut wanted to make sure you knew that you need a cablle with a micro HDMI port on one end and a standard HDMI port on the other. I wasn't sure after reading this comment. Also, you can get the cable from Monoprice.com for under $8 depending on the length you want. I got a 6ft cable for under $5.36 but you can get a 15ft one for $7.84. Verizon charges $20 for theirs I believe unless you get the media combo with the dock.

Check them out at Video Cables - Micro-HDMI/HDMI

I have bought all my cables from them for years and they are excellent cables.

No linking or explaining how to obtain pirated material such as movies. Thanks.

The dock does not come with a hdmi cable I had to buy them separately. The dock only comes with an AC power cord.

I really haven't used the hdmi on the tv but the dock is a great accessory.

I was referring to the online only home bundle here. It comes with an HDMI cable and is $49.99. The desktop charger portion is $34.99 and the HDMI cable is $14.99.

You essentially get the HDMI cable for free since the desktop charger by itself is $49.99 and the HDMI cable by itself is $24.99.

But if you just want an HDMI cable, you can get one for a lot less at the link I provided earlier.
