I have the adapter and HDMI cables ordered and on their way for my Evo and was just curious if I have to be on the stock ROM for it to work or just a Sense based ROM? Any input is appreciated

Most ICS Sense 3.6 based ROM's will work if the dev has included he TVOut.apk, but if it's not listed on the OP ask in the ROM thread to make sure. I've used it on MeanROM ICS 2.6 without any problems.I have the adapter and HDMI cables ordered and on their way for my Evo and was just curious if I have to be on the stock ROM for it to work or just a Sense based ROM? I'm running MeanROM ICS 2.6 on one of my Evo 3D's and it has a TVOut.apk. This is one of many posts I have seen saying that it is required for MHL support but I suppose they could be wrong. It's also mentioned in the OP for this Evo 3D ROM by freeza. Perhaps it adds some functionality beyond what is included in the stock ROM?Stock based roms should all work, however there is no TVOut.apk.
If it was a simple APK, it would be ported out for AOKP and CM.
I think this post explains what TVOut.apk does.
On Meanrom ICS 2.6 there are settings for TV out under the display options as shown in the attached screenshot.
My guess is that those options don't appear when the stock ROM or Harmonia are installed but maybe someone with one of those ROM's could check that.

Mobster HD doesn't have that option in Display settings.

Well, I downloaded both Mobster HD and HD Lite to satisfy my curiosity.Check again, I see "TV out" with those options under "Display" in the system settings in Mobster HD Lite.

Mobster HD Lite has the TVOut.apk and Mobster HD doesn't, which is consistent with what you guys reported.
I think it's safe to conclude at this point that MHL/HDMI will work with just the drivers that are included with the stock ROM, but TVOut.apk adds settings to manage it.

I already checked negalite's BluROM and mentioned in my edit to post #4 above that both it and the d3rp ROM's have the TVOut.apk. I suspect it may be an oversight that it's not included in Mobster HD.Glad to see that you tried out my favorite ROM (if only for 5 minutes). I suppose the Sense version missing that app is consistent with what you speculated earlier in this thread that the "stock" ROMs don't have it.
What about Negalite? I haven't run it in 2-3 days. It's pretty well stockified, so does it lack that option as well?
Which Mobster ROM are you using?ok so I'm trying to figure out what I could possibly be doing wrong. Seems simple enough. Plug your hdmi cord into your TV, plug the other end into your adapter and lastly, plug the other end of the adapter into your phone and BINGO, video from the Evo on the flatscreen!
Ok so you are saying that without a power source connected, the adapter won't work? Damn that sucks
That would be a problem.Well when attempting to plug in the chargers, it appears that the charge port is damaged. It is pushed back into the adapter far enough that the phone can't connect. I'm assuming this would be my problem
