Help Headphone buzzing background noise?

**update and my question answered
I'm satisfied and sad that this isn't just a isolated incident with my individual phone.
It seems it is just how the phone has been built. If you have good ears and in ear headphones connected to your phone you'll hear this background noise. It is nothing major but for audiophiles it is irritating. Most people will never take notice of this but for anyone who does and worries something is wrong with their phone rest assured it is normal.
Thanks for all the replies!

When I use earbuds on my phone I can hear a soft buzzing that changes with the actions I do on the phone. From swiping left to right on the home screen to loading apps it changes. I also hear loud interference when playing music. This is with several sets of earbuds that work perfectly in other devices without any background noise.

Does anyone else experience this with their earbuds?

This completely unbearable for me to listen to music, renders the phone a useless mp3 player so I'll have to continue to carry around a dedicated one. Unfortunately I'm past my 30 day return or I would just return the phone.

You could just sell it, but as far as sound quality I've found this to be the best phone that I've ever heard. I know that at the least it has a Wolfson dac which is definitely top of the line. Most phones go for the cheaper Yamaha unit.

Try the stock audio player. It sounds awesome. If that is stock try a stand alone like neutron. Hope it works for you

I notice this as well. I assume it's just your body static transferring into the phone. I also notice that my headphone wire alone can operate the screen.

Thanks for all the replies.
I've done the rounds with all the rom/kernel/software all having the same result. The normal background interfearance I can live with as its intermitant and soft but what drives me batty is a grainy/snowy sound when listening to music.

Is it audio gain? The grainy sound when you have music playing but you turn it all the way down. Its much much louder than my dedicated music devices and that is what I dislike. You always hear the audio grainy/snowy sound and it taints the music for me.

I notice this as well. Though it doesn't seem as bad on my phone as what you're describing. But maybe you have better ears than me. I notice it particularly when I'm listening with my Bose Quiet Comfort headphones. You can hear it when the amp turns on and off. Any time there is a little sound effect, like the tapping of the keyboard, there are a few seconds of "snow" before the amp turns off. This white noise is present whenever the phone is making any sound at all, including playing music. However the music is usually loud enough that I don't notice it. But yeah, this phone won't be the player of choice for audiophiles. Too bad because I don't remember my blackberry curve having this issue.

I only notice it ever so softly when there is not music playing. It only seems to happen when I'm scrolling on a webpage but it doesn't happen when I'm listening to music.

If you have low impedance earbuds or in-ear headphones, then I notice the same thing, but for me it's simple white noise, or hiss. Just the way it is I guess on this DAC

ive been using a pair of bluetooth headphones with my phone and i have never come across this issue. have you tried multiple pairs of 'phones? wired, bluetooth? brand? try to narrow it down.

Of course you wouldn't have this problem with bluetooth headphones. The sound that gets sent over bluetooth is still a digital signal. It gets translated into analog sound inside the headphones themselves. The white noise we're talking about is due to hardware components inside the phone that physically connect to the headphone jack. I'm guessing it's thermal noise from the amplifier.

As I posted earlier, I find this to be about the best sounding phone I've ever had. Absolutely no issues with the sound except for the low volume, I'm using a Fiio E6 with it so if I was experiencing any distortion obviously it would be amplified and extremely noticeable through my Sennheiser's. I guess I got lucky with my particular phone.
