Headphone volume.....

Hi.
I was just wondering if anyone knows of a way to increase the volume of the headphone volume . I have it set on max at the moment but feel I could do with just a bit more.I also use my Dhd to play music through my truck stereo, but need the stereo on full volume to get it too a decent level.
A few years back I had a Samsung i8910 and you could put a code in the phone that gave acssess to loads of hidden settings, including adjusting the decibel volume for music playback.
Is there any apps, or ways of doing it on my DHD? I really would rather not root my phone, as I'm a thicko and would prob mess things up. It's also an Orange branded phone....though it would be nice to get rid of that crap too....lol
Cheers for any help. Much appreciated...

Have you updated to Gingerbread? The default volume was tweaked to make it more acceptable. It's still not great, but it's certainly better than it was on the previous builds. There are apps out there, but I'm not entirely sure they'll boost it over and above the system default. Have you tried switching between Dolby ad SRS to see if that makes a difference?

Also, if you want to get rid of the Orange Apps, you'll have to root unfortunately.

The only way to get rid of the Orange branding (and all of the bloatware rubbish that they install) is to root your phone. I realise that you have said you don't want to do this and why, but I was a complete beginner having never messed with my phone before (and this being my first Android device)... I eventually took the plunge, after much reading up on it and have to say that it isn't as hard as it seems!

If you do decide to go for it, then http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html is the best place to start looking, as El Presidente has put all links to all of the right places in one convenient place :)

Not trying to convince you to root but there are a lot of custom ROM's out there and a few that say there's a 20-25% increase in volume (not tried any, but that's what I've read). :D

What version of the stock ROM are you on... many have said that they noticed a considerable increase in volume when they switched to Gingerbread.

EDIT - this increase could actually have only been on loadspeaker... I've always found headset volume to be fine

As for the voulme thing... when I rooted, I installed CyanogenMod 7 and that came with DSPManager, which allows you to mess with the settings more than just turning the volume up... not sure, but that might be a CM7 specific app. A quick search on the market for DSPManager brought up several options audiomanager (free - also pro version available) looks like it might do the same sort of thing.

There are also volume hacks on the market... read all the text before you get one though, as I'm not sure how many work on the DHD!

EDIT EDIT - you have seen that, when connecting the headset, you can turn on "dolby digital" or something like that?

lol - thought you'd probably get in there while I was typing my essay!! :D

wouldn't mind finding this out for myself. i find the volume could do with a touch more welly.
on my last phone, samsung jet, there was a way of increasing the volume by typing in one of those *##* type codes, then going through the menus

Hi Andy :)

As per El Presidente's/my posts, there unfortunately doesn't appear to be anything like *##* :(

Sods law, nothing wrong with being thorough though. :)

OP, what are you using for listening to music? The standard app which comes with the handset? Poweramp or Winamp may offer more options and a bit more beef to the sound.

Hi. Well I will look into the root thing, but I'm not sure...I am useing poweramp at the mo. I'm real happy with that app, but the main thing was volume...thanks anyway for all you advise....

it wasn't actually *##*.

just for clarification, it was '*#' with some numbers inbetween '#*'.

i think you know what i meant, but just in case :)
thanks anyway!

No... I knew what you meant :) was only letting you know that there doesn't appear to be anything like that! :)

I can honestly say I am very happy with this app. Some of my music files were very low/old recordings, like led zep, but this really makes the volume more enjoyable... It also increases the volume for the speaker if you want it too , which is handy....
I have always been tempted by the iPhone due to the better volume when playing music....now this is another reason why not to bother with Apple....great..... Now, if only I can find a fix for my GPS ........

Edbanger - check this thread out... you may find that the solution works for you http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-support-troubleshooting/235833-navigation-gps-problem.html

There are also other threads, showing how to remove and replace/clean the GPS antenna if needed! :)

Glad to hear it worked. I've placed on my sd card but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

I don't have any issues with volume for calls but the speaker phone could use a boost.
