Help Headset Button Doesn't Work

So, I'm trying to get the headset button on my phone to work. I want to use it to pause and skip my music in various apps.

On my old MT I was able to do it with the aid of various headset button controller apps, but not in ics.

On this phone I can get it to power on and off the FM radio but nothing else recognizes the button, even the headset controller apps.

Anyone know how to resolve this?

Edit: Forgot to note that this happened on both the stock rom and a custom rom, all ICS

I'm using a Samsung stereo bluetooth adapter that allows me to use any headset I want and play /pause, ff/rew works fine for me with Poweramp. Not exactly sure what you mean by the "phones" headset button.

I am talking about a wired headset. Like the button a pair of earbuds.

Then yes as I previously posted, my adapter is functioning perfectly fine using Power Amp,Amazon Mp3 and Google Play Music. Even though it's a bluetooth adapter it's still the same signal as wired unit would send.

I had to download an app to make it work properly for me. I power amp fid work but I wanted it to work on Spotify and Slacker. Headset Button Controller, the paid version worked for me.
