Help Headset switching on and off

I was recently at the beach and got a little sand in my headset jack. After I got back from the beach my headset icon started blinking on and off randomly. I blew out the sand using compressed air and that fixed the problem, but only for a minute or two. I took the phone apart and blasted the inside with air, but it still didn't fix the problem. Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do to fix it? Is there a way to turn off auto detect headset?

If anyone cares I sort-of fixed the problem. I took apart an old pair of headphones and kept the end plugged into my headset plug. I then used toggleheadset and when I toggle the headset off the phone thinks there is nothing plugged in.
