Does anybody know if the Incredible will work with a standard wired headset/mic unit?

Yes. I've used my old iPhone headset, as well as an old Blackberry headset. Both worked fine.

Beware of any headset that requires some power like full size head phones. It make the phone behave odd. I tried it with my gaming head phones and it didn't work too well. Music started skipping and stuff.
