Help Heavy Battery Drain - 2.3.3

I was suffering from this problem, once I updated my phone to 2.3.3. The day after the update my phone was dead (completely) before the end of work - Android OS was running at 50%+ all day.

In the end, I factory reset my phone and the Android OS is now at a normal level (5%). I only lost 3% of the battery life overnight and so far at work it has been back to normal battery usage (aside from the fact that I forgot to turn wi-fi off, oopsies).

I shall let you know how it goes over the next few days, but it looks like the factory reset may have solved the issue for me.

It did not take too long to put my apps back on my phone, as with the new market you can do it all from your computer (and there is a list of all the apps I had previously installed, so I did not have to search them out).

I backed up photos/whatapps/etc before wiping the phone.
I did two factory resets, the second included the SD card. Neither had any noticeable effect upon my Android OS using the same 40+ (sometimes 70), %.

Battery drain after upgrade Droid Charge (2.3.6). Finally got Verizon to send me a new (refurb) phone. Same problem is emerging.

I have no major widgets running, turned of sns and auto rotate. I have GPS on, but only log into my router for wifi when I'm on the web with the phone which is not that frequent. Also have bluetooth off unless I'm actually speaking on the phone.

Watchdog is alerting me to a suspend about every 3 minutes although I can't find out how to determine which application or process is causing the suspend. How do you find this out?

There is one high process being reported, but I can't figure out what it is or what it is attached to (also don't know how to figure this out). The process is k3dh_workqueue - it says it's a linux process but that's all I can find out. It is taking a pretty steady 10% of the CPU.

One other question...if anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.... when you leave Watchdog running, should you leave a checkmark in Real Time CPU?

Thanks for any help and/or education anyone can offer.

Hey guys, I had a similar issue in my Galaxy S since the upgrade to gingerbread 2.3.3 After I read some things about how to fix that, I found that the only thing that really helped is in tempest7 post !! Just let your phone to drain all the battery down until it shuts itself, then charge it WITHOUT STARTING THE PHONE !!!! I can see now Android OS drains only 7% from the battery ( before was 55-70%) with Auto Rotation ON, Accounts and sync OFF, GPS OFF , 3G and WiFi OFF. The battery last now longer than before (at least 48h). I hope that helps !

Hello everyone!

I noticed that almost everyone are having problems with android os high %,
mine is 6%, but display is to high over 75%, even taking off all the brightness.
Is this normal??

Hi there,

My husband and I both have the Samsung Epics and recently downloaded Gingerbread 2.3.5. Every since then we have had issues with the battery life as well. I took my phone back to Sprint a few days ago and they ran a full diagnostic (so they said) and told me there was nothing wrong and that I must have been running corrupt software. I hardly ever use my phone for internet and had maybe 2-3 market apps downloaded.

They proceeded to wipe the phone and do a full reset. I have not used the internet or downloaded any apps and guess what....my battery is still draining like crazy. In some cases the factory reset might work, but not in mine. Not sure what the issue is with Gingerbread, but I wish they would fix it and soon! Hope this helps some of you considering a factory reset. Good luck!
