HELLLLLPPPPP , done a silly thing

Ok , so I finally got round to rooting the wifes S2 , (i have the same phone running Aliance ROM ) , I forgot she was still on GB and the kernal I flashed was ICS based and now the phone is bricked !!!!!

what can I do ? she is gonna kill me LOL

You mean AFTER we send a copy to your Mrs.?

No worries, if you want it deleted that's okay, but we usually let these threads stand in case someone else in the same situation comes looking for an answer. We have about a 10 to 1 guest to member ratio, so many only read the forums.

Ok so Iv rooted with an insecure kernal , installed superuser and cwm from the play store , put my rom on the ex sd card , put into recovery and tryed to install the ROM but no luck , it only gives me the option to install "update" not install zip ???

any ideas , kernal is 2.6.35.7-I900XWKL1-CL809037 ??

Am I right in thinking I need a CF rooted kernal (on GB btw as you can see from kernal)

What version of CWM do you have?

I'm looking at v6.0.1.5 on my S2 and the second option it to install zip from sdcard.

v6 must have come with the SuperNexus JB rom I'm running, but here's a screenshot of v5.5.0.4

CWM5.jpg

it should be there. :hmmmm2:

but I have the cwm app ??

Are you talking about ROM Manager?

ROM Manager wreaks havoc with Samsung phones. If you are sure that the kernel you flashed is stable for the i9100 (we are talking about the i9100, right?) you can try reflashing that, or alternately you can try one of the siyah kernels. The Alliance ROM is JB, correct?

Does the Alliance ROM come with it's own kernel? If so, then it really doesn't matter, but if not then the kernel you use must be compatible. I'm not really familiar with that ROM so maybe someone who is can jump in and help.

ok so im trying to flash a different kernal via odin , but when I try and extract the kernals from their zip I get a "zImage" file not a .Tar file and odin wont recagnise it

I cant flash a kernal as when i download the file it comes compressed/zipped , when I uncompress/unzip using 7zip or winzip it opens a file called zImage and odin doesnt recagnice it ???

Im getting a lil miffed now with it all !!!!!

That link I gave you has both the zip file and the tar file. Neither should be uncompressed. If you download the tar file (the link on the right - recommended) flash with Odin just as you download it. If you download the zip file, copy it to the root directory of your sd card and flash with CWM.

Cool thats what I need , BUT im on GB so an ICS kernal would just put me in bootloop , soo what I need is a .Tar GB file with cwm root.

Alot to ask I know as GB is donkeys years old lol

Nope , i tryed to download the .Tar file on the right and that also came compressed and when uncompressed just said a "zImage" file. Wits end coming soon :(

I thought you were looking to flash the Alliance ROM? If that's so and it's a JB ROM, then do this. Copy the Alliance ROM file (or any ROM file ... just flashed SuperNexus 4.2.2 to my S2 this morning) to the root of your /sdcard partition or put it on an SD card. Don't forget gapps if that ROM requires it, since I'm not familiar with it.

Then flash the Siyah kernel to the phone through Odin. If you copied the ROM to an external SD card, put it in the phone, otherwise just boot into recovery. Because you are coming from GB you should do this ... wipe cach, wipe dalvik cache, factory reset/wipe data. Now still in recovery flash your rom and then gapps. Reboot the phone and you should be good.

OMG iv done it , found a (very) old speedmod kernal odin file , which had CWM 4.0.1 on it , and all is well in the world , it must have just been a rather dodgy kernal LOL

Thank you for all your help mate , i probably would have gone in some other strange direction :)
