Hello all.

Hey all. New on the site, just switched back to Android from iOS (again) and most likely staying there. Had an HTC aria before (pile of seagull poop) and now have a Samsung Captivate (pretty good so far).

Im not very tech savvy, Im still a Mac user (:D) so I'll prolly have a lot of dumb questions, like why dont the notification sounds I download from zedge work on my device? (really... this sucks) That and what all is rooting and how do I benefit from it? doesnt it do some shit like speed up the processor?

Welcome to the Android Forums!

When you say that the ringtones do not work, are you (in fact) saying that you cannot see them when you try to set ringtones? Are you able to successfully download them from the Zedge web site? Can you play these ringtones with your music player? What directory are you storing the downloaded files in?

Rooting is, in essence, establishing super user (priviledged) access to the phone. By rooting the phone, you set it to allow modifications to the system partition of the phone, an area that Google and the wireless carrier would likely prefer you don't mess with.

Rooting a phone, in and of itself, does not overclock the processor on the phone. You need root access to overclock but the two functions don't go hand in hand.

Thanks everyone!

And what I was talking about with the notif. sound was that It comes up in the menu, but every time I try to set it, it just plays the previous one I had.
