Root Hello everyone, noob question!

Hey, I was actually wondering what the difference between i717 and i717r is, or whether there is a difference at all? I tried to root it according to the i717 tutorial i found but yielded no results, and was hoping someone could tell me something regarding this so i know what to look for/do from this point on. Thanks to everyone in advance for your helpful advice!
 
Yeah, i'm still unable to root. I get past ODIN and I've even put in the zip file for SuperUser, but I can't get into CWM, I just get into the other mode where it says reboot from device, wipe/reset to factory, etc. It most definitely isn't the CWM screen either.
 
Just for clarity, try pulling the battery for 10 seconds, then put it back in and hold down both the power button and the volume down button until you feel the first vibrate, then let go of the power button but still hold on the volume down button until you get the download screen. Report back what it says and let's see if we can get you rooted.
 
It goes directly into download mode when I hold down those two buttons, which has the Volume up and down options of download or restart. I might try another tutorial, maybe a youtube video, or search up something on the xda forums later when I get off work. Don't really want to experiment with my phone and potentially brick my phone and have it be useless for the rest of my work day haha.
 
I think you hit on the best answer right there, and post this on xda. Their note community is way bigger and much more active than this one.
