Hello - I'm New!

Lurker
This is my first time in the forum. I have the HTC EVO 4G with Gingerbread 2.3.5. It's been a good phone (my first smartphone). However, it got "sick" and now will not get past the white screen with the "4G" logo. It appears, from reading this forum, that I need to run a repair program (ruu.exe), as I have tried and failed to get the Fastboot or the Recovery options from the boot menu to work. I am hoping to avoid the factory reset if possible and saving that for last.

I removed the SD card to back it up and was getting ready to try the next step in the process to recovery my phone (had it connect via USB) and decided to do the Fast Boot one more time. What do you know? It worked! I had tried the "remove the battery" re-boot method along with the recovery method with no success. Why it worked this time, I cannot say; but I am happy! Now on to getting a good backup program to get ready for the next time this happens. I am sure it will only be a matter of time.

I did re-insert the SD card before the attempt to Fastboot.

Come to think of it, I tried running the boot recovery while the SD card was out, then realized it when it got to the red triangle screen - shut it down, re-inserted the card and then did the fastboot. That's when it finally came back to life.
