Hello

Wow, lasted almost a month... I think that's a record for something I really wanted and finally got.

Cracked LCD this evening, and of course nobody carries a replacement.

Fun while it lasted.

IDK, I've been thinking of selling my Xbox 360 for a while now, since games are so expensive and there's membership fees on top of that. I can't afford a Nook Color otherwise, which is why I had to buy it used from my friend. So, yea, if I can't come up with extra money, this is my exit.

signing off, extremely pissed

Bummer Dave. I hate that your broke your Nook, and that you'll be leaving us. Here's to hoping that you'll find a way to get another one, and rejoin our little gang here.

I've lined up a sale for my Xbox 360 and a spare LCD monitor. If these sales go through, coupled with the cash in my pocket, I should be able to get back up and running this evening.

Not sure I'm ready to part with my Xbox :*( but at this point I'm pretty sure I'd just miss saying that I have one, not that I'd necessarily miss playing on one. Haven't played on it in a few months, and not looking forward to renewing my Live again, so...

edit: on the bright side, now I have some spare parts, including a good system board. Maybe it's time to further investigate some hardware mods, like extended BT range, or even a working FM radio. With USB host working, maybe even integrate a small web cam in the spare case, and try and get it wired up internally with a switch to connect it to USB when usage is desired... So many possibilities, so little time...

Sounds like Nook Color > (XBox 360 + spare LCD monitor) :D

OR is it: XBox 360 + spare LCD monitor + $pocket cash$ = Nook Color?

Seems about right, still waiting for dude to come pick up the Xbox, though. Other guy's on his way for the monitor.

We'll see...

Well I'm back, and although the downtime was thankfully short, the feeling remains bittersweet. The expensive pile of otherwise perfect Nook hardware sitting here now makes me rather sad. I hope I can source a replacement LCD, I think I'd much rather get my first Nook running again than try to Frankenmod it. I'd like to give it to my mom, since she helped bridge my gap to get me a new unit.

It sure did feel good to unbox this thing for the first time, though. It smells fantastic, too. :)

You could sell your broken one on ebay. You could probably get 80 bucks or more for it.

You wanted parts and couldn't find any. Are batteries available yet? Last I heard, no, but maybe that's changed now. It's worth checking into tho. You've seen the disassembly instructions, right?

I've found old hard drives that are only worth a buck at most, with just the circuit board removed and selling for $35 each. Lots of pics of numbers on those boards. I bought 3 hoping it would fix a drive that a part got knocked off of that still had data. Sadly for me, we never got data off of Mom's drive that I broke. :D

Hi...

First, the Nook is OK! :)

There's been some changes in my life recently that have left me with much less time to hang around on the internet. Don't worry though, she feeds me well and takes care of me, and loves my "tablet" too. :D
