Root Hello

dead_hank

Lurker
Hi all- newb to android, actually newb to smart phones, etc. I use my phone as a phone- scored a used desire to use as a tablet rather than cost arm & leg for data package- works on wi-fi and as a tablet - I'm good - problem is I have the bravoc w/ hboot 1.06 Unrootable ? I'm searching - spent a few hours yesterday to no avail unrevoked3 ended unsuccessful - I'll keep chugging away - I would have just kept searching quietly but site insists I "register" to search- Kinda silly -- Wheres the post dump thread to get my minimum posts done so I can post a new thread ? --

When complaining about newb's remember that the site forces you to sign up to search -

Hello and welcome dead_hank!
Have you seen our forum for the Desire?
HTC Desire - Android Forums
There are some stickies at the top of that forum for rooting.
I see that it is aka bravo. What is bravoc? I am not familiar with that exact device, but I know a little about HTC as I have an Evo4g :)
We also have a forum for the Desire C also.

Let us know if you need anything else:)

MIKESTONY- Thanks for the welcome - I've read the stickies, and FAQ's and etc etc etc. Followed directions-etc etc etc=== heres the skinny

I have an HTC Desire AKA bravo
when I boott (vol dn / pwr) I see

BRAVOC DVT2 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.06.0000
MICROP-051E
TOUCH PANEL - SYNT0101
RADIO-2.15.00.11.16

Thus the term "BRAVOC" I've come across threads stating this device is the bravo cdma version and unrootable. I'm pretty resourceful and able minded, I just cant find the right tool for this job yet. tried revolutionary, enrevoked, probly more- I dont remember. It woulld be nice to root it and get more control over the bloatware on my device so I can use it how I want to- shoot, I gotta blast- I'll check back in an hour or so

bobby, thnx for the link- somehow didn't come across that one- As time permits I'll give it a go. I'll post back here w/ results - might be awhile ? SWMBO has other plans for me today.

OK guys, I know this isnt the "right place" to get into this, but- been there tried that - Unrevoked3 yields the "internal error: failed to unlock nand flash ?" google searches result in guys saying it is unrootable - I was at this stage yesterday - So, I'll pick up w/ my search from then and trudge on- UNLESS someone has a method that works ? I easily could be missing something and I'm not lazy about searching, just getting upset its taking so long for such a simple operation. Oh well, I'll get it hopefully soon

Thanks for trying guys, but all my efforts are nill- unrevoked dont work, revolutionary beta key doesnt work, tried some other stuff- dont work. Bugger it, I'll try a Linux version when time permits. suck

This thread actually should have been moved to the desire section - not desire C - At any rate- Super thanks to mikestoney and scotty85 - I dont know why but, after many failed attempts and redownloading, and a few more failed attempts I have sweet success - Take back those lousy lemons - s-off, Hboot-6.06.1002, and revolutionary- mmmmmm Jelly Donut === Thanks again, now for some tasty ROM goodness == goodbye bloatware and useless apps

Whoa, sorry about that! I moved it to the Desire Root forum.
I am glad you are up and running:)

Thanks- Almost up and running- got back to this today only to find I have revolutionary and s-off and unlocked but when I enter recovery I get the revolutionary recovery menu Cwm v4.0.1.4 - when I attempt any of the menu options, i tgoes to the "revolutionary" screen and thats all- did I miss something? -- I'm supposed to be in and done by now ???

wheres the earth shattering Kaboom ?

You seem to have the default revolutionary recovery which is not the best for the Desire. If you look in the root guide section of this forum there is a guide to installing 4ext recovery. I recommend you follow that guide. Having done that let us know what you want from your phone (more memory) and we can advise. Rooting alone doesn't get you much but the door to greater things is unlocked via root & s-off.

If you are S-Off already you can use the 4Ext recovery installer or 4Ext recovery updater apps to install that recovery. There is a version of that for the Bravo_C.

The thing to be careful of with a Bravo_C is that you don't end up installing GSM software by mistake. There's a lot more stuff for the GSM version because there were many, many more GSM Bravos sold than Bravo_Cs. So always check that ROMs or recoveries are built for the CDMA handset before installing them - if they don't say, they are probably for GSM only.

The Desire All Things Root Guide sticky post here has a link to a collection of ROMs at XDA. There is a section there for CDMA ROMs. There were also some that claimed to work on both GSM and CDMA - most of those were GSM ROMs with a patch to make them work on CDMA, and at least some people here found them not to work well, but it may be that they've improved. The most important thing is to take a backup from recovery (a "nandroid" backup) before you start messing with ROMs or system software, then if you have a problem or just don't like something you can always restore the backup and it's back the way it was when the backup was made).

You may find some of the other links in the sticky post useful too :)
