Alright, I'm really wanting to change carriers.. right now I have MetroPCS; I'm using the LG Optimus M, and I actually really like it for a Metro phone. The only thing I don't like about Metro is the service.. I live in CA, and I can get 3g. But I can only get about 2 bars of 3G at max, and when I'm walking around my phone sticks to 1x -it also goes into 1x during calls, I can't go on the Market or use the browser-, so that's really annoying. Virgin Mobile looks cheap for the unlimited everything $55 a month plan, but the number one question is: Is the service good? Does it stay in 3G most of the time when walking around? And I'm making this thread for this phone because I might switch to it if I decide to go to Virgin Mobile- so my last question is: Is the Motorola Triumph a good android phone, and do you recommend it?
Sorry I wrote so much. Thanks :)

The Triumph is a pretty solid phone and I'm pretty sure you'll like it loads better than the Optimus M...

Regarding Signal, what I would do is get a friend or someone who has Sprint as their mobile provider and ask them how well their signal is around your area.

Virgin Mobile is Sprint, without roaming.

You could also get more information about signal if you were a little more specific about your area (tell us the city).

But usually Virgin Mobile signal is strides better than Metro's.

I live in Los Angeles and just switched from Metro to Virgin and the signal is about the same if not better. Also as far as I know metro does not have 3g, which is one of the reasons I switched.

I live near Santa Rosa (CA). Most of my friends in Highschool have pretty good signal with Sprint.. While i'm pretty much at 0 with 3G, and about 1 at max with 1x.

Metro does have 3G, and 4G. If you updated your PRL, you would get 3G depending on where you live.

I wouldn't switch to VM, customer service stinks and after a yr, if there is any trouble with your phone you are out of luck. Try the GoPhone, a lot of people have good things to say about it.

I haven't had an issue with virgin mobile, and have recommended it to friends. How good it will be depends on where you live. I am pretty sure best buy (and other places as well) offer a refund on the phone for 30 days (may be different at other places). So you could try it out and at most lose 35$ (for the one month of service) if you are not happy.

What about Sprint?

If your friends got pretty solid sprint signal, then your good to go!

VM is a pretty good prepaid alternative with great signal/features for the price (I'm in the old 25$ plan)

I would recommend you switch, almost anything is better than metro.

Also, if you do decide to switch you can enter this code (Kickback Code, you get bonus Airtime too)

7DL7O7OD

You'll be helping us both.

Good Luck Switching!

P.S

If you switch do not buy the Samsung Intercept, very laggy, and no GPU.

LG Optimus V, as great as the one your using

Motorola Triumph is a general good phone just make sure to install TickerGuy's CM7

EDIT: Just noticed the Optimus Slider! Haven't heard any reviews on it but it seems to pack a 800mhz and 2.3!

I also don't know if this code still works but it gave you 25% off

Sprint says it has unlimited everything for $79.99.. and theres another plan saying its unlimited EVERYTHING for $99.99?
If VM is Sprint w/o roaming, does it have the same signal strength? And I'm thinking of going for the $55 plan.

Dude I live in b.f.e kentucky and i get good enough service for me for where i go. 3g 98% of the time.

And virgin's customer service is pretty good, I mean if theywill replace a bricked phone after being told you flashed the sprint samsung moment firmware over it, they are pretty cool in my book.

And the triumph is almost a more open phone than the google nexus one.

It came from the factory with a sudo binary(ability to gain root from the terminal emulator from the factory) the bootloader is not only unlocked, but by mounting the phone in linux in bootloader mode you can access the system partition with read write permissions, and on windows you can easily swap in a custom recovery.

There phones are bone stock looking android which is awesome for theming on, and for everyone who wants CM7 we have a pretty nice build of CM7 coming along and a MIUI port is in progress as well.

All in all for 300$ and 35$ or so a month its the best android deal out there. Which I pay 40$ for 1200 minutes as I am an old customer but still it's an awesome deal for sure!!!

I would recommend it to anyone that can pick up sprint service!

Same...

The only difference is when your friends on sprint get the roaming triangle
you won't get signal.

I came to VM from Verizon... and while VM's signal doesn't beats Verzion...
they have pretty impressive signal for a price so low. ($65 with 300min. on Verizon to $25 300m. unlimited txt. data.)

I'm always at least able to receive and send calls and text.
and the No service icon is rare out in the city (LA area)

if your big on talk then the 45 and 55 are the best for you.

"Roaming triangle", what's that? And if it's the same signal strength then I would totally switch.

When they are out of Sprint coverage (Mountains, Dead Zones) The roaming triangle icon means they are borrowing another companies towers (most noticeably Verizon's)

The signal is the exact same. I've compared my cousins Galaxy S with my Triumph and we get the exact same coverage/signal strength.

Oh. Well the coverage looks great, so no roaming wouldn't bother me.

It's either you just had bad luck with their customer service or I've been having really good luck... Because I've been using VM for 6months now and called customer service numerous times. I've found their CS to be excellent, way better than when I was with AT&T. Almost no wait time to talk to a real person and they've always been polite, and most of the time they solve my problem quickly and efficiently.

I heard that if you go over 5gigs of data then you'll have really slow download speeds... Seeing that prevents me from switching. Eh.

Not really.

I had Sprint for years, before switching to VM. I never roamed before on Sprint, and I can say my service on VM is definetly worse than it was on Sprint. Not a *TON* worse, but it is worse, I would say 15% worse. Certainly not bad enough for me to cancel, but bad enough to be annoying at times.

But the beauty of VM is no contract. Go buy a Triumph, and try it out, after a week or so you'll know how the signal is, if you don't like it, return the phone, and walk away clean. I reccomend buying from Radio Shack as I find Best Buy to be a real hassle to deal with when returning things, and Radio Shack return have been a breeze

I would switch to VM- but I saw a few websites saying if you go over 5gigs then it'll slow you down.. :/
"Apparently there wasn't a press release, but Virgin Mobile quietly announced a 5GB cap for their $40 prepaid 3G data service in the ultrafine print of this week's Radio Shack flyer. According to their disclaimer, they "reserve the right" to limit your speed to 256kbps or less once you crest 5GB. Renewing your "Unlimited" account early will restore full speed. This effectively duplicates TMobile's approach, though VM is more generous, giving you 4x their 64kbps once throttled." -http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Virgin-Mobile-Unlimited-Actually-Means-5-GB-112158

It would probably take you a month of constant use to pull 5 GB of data over a 3G connection.

If you use that much data, you should be looking for a 4G or LTE phone. Virgin Mobile is a discount service. You don't buy a Hyundai and expect to set lap records with it.

I wouldn't want to have the worry of getting capped if I go over 5gigs.
