Root Help a2sd running icarus 1.1 huawei ascend

Hello everyone, I've been on and off this forum for quite a bit and finally decided after reading how awsome icarus 1.1 is and took the plunge. I have successfully installed the rom and configured it. Now my question is since a2sd is automatic why is my internal memory still being taken up with the applications. I read that some memory is still taken up by apps but would it make a difference if I was using a 8g sd card?

download terminal emulator from market here... https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm&feature=search_result

open it and type the following....

su (enter)

a2sd check (enter)

look for boxes with x's and error reports. if none appear continue on to

a2sd zipalign (enter)

a2sd reinstall (enter)

the phone will reboot and move apps to the sd partition.

i run an eight gig too, works perfect.

oh, don't pull your card with the phone on. your apps will freeze. also, don't do this untill market updates it's self and goes all green.

Im sorry but I don't understand what you mean by with this part, could you please clarify for me.

And will the apps still be visible on the home screens and app drawer? I ask because the first time I install icarus I attempted somthing similar and used the reinstall command but not the zipalign command and the phone rebooted. Now the phone would not boot and continued to stay at the green android screen until I pulled the battery and sd card..the phone booted after a few minutes but the market and all my apps were missing. can you expalain what I may have done wrong?

I did as you stated and everything went ok. The phone went weird for a second after I entered the commands and I had to do a manual restart but after that the apps were moved Im guessing because alot of the internal memory was cleared up. How do you know if the market has updated ?

Sorry, but a little off the subject your talking about now, BUT, I wanted to point out.

Even with A2SD, "SOME" of the phones memory is going to be used up with every app you install. First, you have some cache for some that will eventually clean out, or I would recommend getting a "Cache cleaner".

I use I think it's called "cache cleaner NG" It cleans both internal and SD card caches

Second, I assume that you are still running the Dalvik Cache off of the internal memory. Whenever you install an app, there is going to be some data written to that, as this is the "Guts" of what's going on with your apps, etc.

So, no matter what, "SOME" internal memory is going to be used with every app installed, just not NEAR as much as before.

The best way to tell what up, install Titanium Backup.

When you run it at the bottom you will see 3 'progress bars' that indicate how much memory is used.
1. Internal Memory, how much you have vs. how much used.
2. SD card - Now this is the FAT32 partition, the part you put songs, pics, whatever
AND MOST IMPORTANT
3. SD (A2SD) Partition: This will list your partition size, and how much used. When you install an app, check that and you will see that the bulk of the app is taking up space on this partition and going into this area. IF it is not, and you install an app and this stays the same, then you know something is up.


Also really, the best advice up here is from Tokenpoke, when he said open up Terminal, type su (to get super user priv), then type " a2sd check " (no quotes typed)

tons of stuff flys by, but you go back, and there will be a statement like APPS are being run from SD , and/or APPS are being stored on SD

This question comes up every time somebody starts to use A2SD for the 1st time. You just need to be patient, follow Tokenpokes post as it is the best you can do. Especially the check and the zipalign.

Then if you want to monitor it, use the Titanium Backup like I mentioned, and you will see memeory usage on those partitions.

IF (BIG IF, as it's your call) decided to run Dalvik partition from the card, I have an 8G card and it's NO PROBLEM, don't notice any delays or anything, plus IF there is a problem or it's slugish you can move it back with one command.

But anyway if you move that, it will free up maybe 40MB++ on the phone, PLUS that stuff I mentioned is added when you install an app will go there (also on the card), and when you add an app, almost nothing will go to the phone partition.

If you decide to keep it on the phone, a little more internal memory will be used with each app , but NOTHING compared to as if you did not have a2sd, so

BOTTOM-LINE: Patience is a virtue to be cliche about it....
