Help Help! Accounts and Sync settings disappeared after Rooting

Lurker
Hi All,

After rooting my Samsung Gio GT-S5660 (Android Version 2.2.1) , my Settings > Accounts and Settings disappeared.
No idea what happened, it may be that I accidentally deleted it from the Settings, or maybe the rooting process has a bug of some kind.

In any case, I found that I'm missing accountsandsyncsettings.apk in the \system\apps folder.

Hopefully, if I can get hold of the correct file for this phone, I'll be able to copy it to the folder and get back my settings (I've seen some posts on other devices that have had the same issue).

Anyone help on this? Could someone with the same device and Android version copy the file and upload it?

TIA.

You can do either of the following.

1) Flash a new ROM
2) Download your current ROM from samfirware.com and use WINRAR to open it and then find & Extract the "accountsandsyncsettings.apk"

I downloaded what appeared to be the correct ROM from samfirmware (S5660XXKC6_XXKB9_PRTKC2.rar). I opened the .md5 files, but none appear to have any apk's in them (.img , .rfs files).

Am I missing something?

You are right, RFS is Samsung's proprietary file system so you can not extract the required APK from this RFS image.

I just checked my phone and using Root Explorer, I was able to find this "accountsandsyncsettings.apk" in the system/app folder.

I just copied this to my SD card. How can I send you ?

Can you check your phone's "system/app" folder using root explorer ? May be it is there but not shown in the menu.

If you add a "Power Control Widget", it has a Sync tab on it. What happens if you click Sync on power control widget ?

Thank you for your reply.

I've searched for this file using "File Expert", and it's nowhere to be found.

In addition, I've downloaded an app called "Syncer" which does the synchronization based on the current settings. However, when I try to use the "Accolunts and Sync settings" found on that apps menu, the app crashes. So I guess something is wrong.

If you could kindly send me the apk file and maybe the .odex file, this will hopefully resolve the issue.

Use the following email:
samsunggio.xxx567@gmail.com

Thanks again!

Thanks Ijaz.
Unfortunately, I copied it to system/apps, but it doesn't do anything. Doesn't appear on the Settings, and actually it doesn't copy it to that directory.

Do you think it needs the .odex file as well?

Mostly it looks like I'll have to do a re-install or try the "factory defaults settings".

Thanks.

Sorry for a late reply. I just got back from a out station trip.

I wish I could help, but it seems like your only bet is to Re-Flash.

Just Flash your phone with latest firmware from samfirmware which is 2.3.4(its faster, better, and saves battery) , latest first firmware is one package compact it will not delete your apps , settings ...

Use Odin and choose one package option location .tar file and flash it by putting your phone in downloading mode (power button+home key+volume down)

click start and wait to complete it (there will be written"PASS")

if you like restore fectory settings(All apps and settings will be deleted)

Good luck
