Root HELP!! annoying mms force close issues!!

Hey guys I am experiencing a well known bug on android phones. Every now and again my stock sms application forces closes. The message I get is the all too familiar "Sorry! the application messaging(process com.android.mms) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again!" My messages stay intact they dont disappear like some have experinced but I have no option but to click the force button everytime it happens which is rather annoying!

Its followed me from stock sense to Eevek's eMIUI 12.11 built. Ive since moved onto eMIUI 12.18 cos everybody seem to say its the most stable built around but I cant seem to shake it off. Infact force closes was bearable on sense as it only occured once in a while but on MIUI it seems to occur once or twice a day now!

Ive tried numberous ways to get rid of it like pulling battery out whilst the phone is running, weeding out suspect apps conflicting with the phone's system but I can confirm apps arent the problem cos I didnt add any apps at one point and force close stil occured, reflashing rom couple of times including full wipe, clear cache dalvik cache blah blah blah, deleting mmssms.db file through root explorer. I was also told to delete files from "/data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/app_parts" but its not on the database?? How do I access/find that? I am told I need to be S-OFF'ed which Im not so is there a way I could get to that throught recovery on Amon Ra?? Tried "fix_permission" through Terminal app but "fix permission is not found"!!? :confused: Again do I have to be S-OFFed to run it??? Ive also corrected my APN settings so thats not a problem either.

I am starting to run out of options here so I dont know what else to do. If anybody got any ideas any help is greatly appreciated cos I am starting to think my phone is faulty. :(

PS.. would changing kernel or radio help? I havent touched them so far.....
 
Have you tried an alternative - Handcent, Chomp or Go sms?

I know it doesn't fix the problem but it may stop all the hair-pulling.

Not sure if that's the solution. Those apps dont replace the stock messeging app so I'll probably still experience force closes. Or am I wrong?

I need find a way to access app_part files on the mmssms database cos I have this nagging feeling one of the file is corrupted. I used backup app to transfer contacts from sense to MIUI and with that I had contact pictures so perhaps that might be the cause of my problem but I dont know how to get to it!!! Anybody knows a way???
 
I had this problem with my HTC Wildfire and found that the problem still occurred with Handcent SMS and Go.

It has now generalised to my whole HTC Sense Launcher and the phone has become unusable... Booking it in for repair tomorrow...

Ahh ok they will simply reflash your phone. I did the same meself on few occasions including changing from MIUI version 12.11 to 12.18 but the problem still remains...
 
Just for fun, do you have another sd card you could try? I used to get force closures with Miui but with a load of apps and it turned out to be my sd card. If you have a corruption on the card............

Hmm worth considering mate. I have a 4gb class 2 card in my phone at the moment but I have a new samsung class 6 card I purchased recently so I might give that a go. Anything is worth considering at the moment!!
 
Not sure if I should partition my samsung card before copying over the contents from my phone's sd card??
 
Miui needs an ext partition. Just copy Titanium back up folders, and Miui.zip if your going to fresh flash. A Nandrtoid restore might mean your simply flashing your old problem back.

Ok cheers mate. Ive copied over just the MIUI zip file on my new sd card. All my contacts are on google so I'l move that back on my phone. Lets see what happens now. Fingers crossed!!:rolleyes:
 
Ive run into a strange problem. Everything seem to be working ok but when I downloaded Quick System Info A2SD storage is greyed out "information not available" and internal storage is only showing total 148mb free 45mb. :confused:

I dont understand cos I partitioned my new 8gb Sd card via Amon Ra selecting size 512mb swap 0 and rest fat32. Maybe it didnt partiation sd card properly!!?? Does that mean I have to reformet and redo everything all over again including reflashing MIUI rom!? Or shall I download Rom Manager and partition through there without the hassle of redoing everything from scratch. But since Rom Manager uses Clockwork recovery will that conflict with Amon Ra recovery I got?? I need answers! :)
 
I had no answers with AmonRA formatting my SD card, did you then do a full wipe before flashing the ROM?
 
If you need to check the SD partitioning, I would recommend GParted. have a look at the Apps2SD+ FAQ
 
Can I simply reflash my rom again jus to see if It corrects the problem. Clear dalvik cache and data then reflash rom??
 
Ok thats sorted! wiped and partiationed through Amon ra recovery again. A2SD is showing total 458mb free 375mb. Dont know why it didnt work the 1st time around!?

Now back to keeping an eye on the original problem lets hope I dont experience any force closes!! :rolleyes:

Yeah. I just added MIUI zip file on new SD card then I moved all my contacts back using google before re-adding all my important apps through market. I only have around 20 apps I hate cluttering. I dont know what to do now!? :confused:

So after this, there are no SMS or MMS messages in the messaging app, yeah?
