Root (Help) (CWM) different versions, choosing rom?

Quick background info:

I have rooted and flashed multiple roms on the older red Admire. This was over 6 months ago but I had the phone rooted with clockwork mod, an ACS rom with v6 supercharger and other scripts, Link2sd running about 60 or more apps smoothly on partitioned SD card and tweaks that made the phone very user friendly and very fast.

Recently obtained Samsung Admire with firmware to 2.3.6, after a month of use the phone is one of the worst I have ever operated or owned. It lags, apps take extremely long to start, phone often freezes, and many more problems.

After reading through the forums, I have come to find out that the firmware version on this new Admire is available to root and there are many more roms that have come out since I customized the old Admire.

My goal is to get the phone rooted with a version of clockworkmod on it and a good reliable rom, I would like it to be over clocked if possible. I'm thinking of either:

Admiral Beast (Used it on the old red admire)

CT Mod

[ROM/CWM/OC-KERNEL] [OA]2.3.20-
[FINAL] CRICKET+MPCS [Updated:
09/23/12]

[ROM] Admired Monster 5.3 NOW
WITH A STOCK KERNEL BUILD FOR
PHONES THAT DONT TAKE OC KERNEL
WELL

I know that I have to have CWM to flash the roms, and for certain ones you have to have a specific version of it. I have the 5.0.2.7 CWM version (admire-cwm.tar file) that can be flashed through Odin. I cannot find CWM version 5.0.2.8 file.
Which I believe is needed in order to flash a couple of the above roms.

QUESTIONS:
There are many versions of CWM now available, which one do I need in order to flash the above roms?
Where can I get the CWM files?
Is it best to flash them with Odin or if you have a previous version of CWM installed can you use update.zips?

Sorry for all of the questions but this is my mother's phone and I do not want to mess it up.

If anyone has experience with CWM and the above roms specifically OA or monster, or has any suggestions on other roms I should use. Please post or send me a PM I would really appreciate anybody's help with this.
 
Yeah basically what Jose said. I haven't had a chance to flash cwm 6 so I don't know anything about it but if it can flash rfs and ext4 then I say use that one. Also OA and Monster 5.3 both have an rfs and ext4 version so it would just be your personal preference.

Also to clear some things up for you as I said in your other thread the update.zip isn't for flashing roms. When you install cwm you should see something like choose zip from sdcard and install zip from sdcard. Those are the options you're gonna want to choose.

I don't know what you're asking about the odin thing. Well either way only cwm 5.0.2.7 can be flashed through odin and no roms can be flashed using odin except the stock 2.3.4.

If you go to my OA thread the link for 5.0.2.8 is in there a long with the rom. I don't know where 6.0.3.2. You gotta search for it.
 
I went to the OA thread all the links are dead to the CWM 5.0.2.8 but I did find a disc image of it on XDA here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2110860

Also cannot find 6.0.3.2; So I am just going to use 5.0.2.7 for now and at least root the phone and make a backup. Also debloat all the metro crap. Maybe someone else in the forums will know how to get the new versions of CWM or have a better understanding of how to get these roms flashed to the admire.

And those cwm are for another phone so I don't think it would work for the admire.

Here's the link for 6.0.3.2 http://androidforums.com/admire-all-things-root/723981-cwm-clockworkmod-recovery-v6-0-3-2-a.html . Check the all things root guide for links to different roms and such.

Also flashing roms aren't complicated or anything.
  • You install cwm 5.0.2.7 using odin
  • Assuming you already have the 6.0.3.2.zip on your sdcard you boot into cwm and choose install zip from sdcard then choose zip from sdcard and then you flash the zip
  • After flashing is done you reboot recovery and start flashing roms

Most rom if not all rom threads have instructions on how to flash the rom and also which cwm you need.
