Help deciphering firmware

RhythMick

Lurker
Hi all,

I'm sorry to be a pain, but I'm looking for clarification as to what firmware my phone has and what versions I should be able to flash it to via Odin. I ask because I actually managed to brick my old S2 last time I tried this, by not properly identifying the firmware before I started.

I bought a refurbished S2 for my son, but it won't update via Kies.

*#1234# returns this

Model GT-I9100
Android version 2.3.6
Baseband I9100XXKI4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKK5-CL754841root@DELL144 #2
Build GINGERBREAD.XWKK5

Baseband says XX, but Kernel says XW ? something dodgy here ?

Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to Android Forums RhythMick! :)

Lets have a look at your query...

All the following replies refer to the Jelly Bean update - Dummies Guide in the sticky at the top of this forum.

There are a number of reasons that the phone will not update via Kies. See #1.5 and #1.6.

That is not the usual information, PDA, Phone, CSC and Build info, that should be returned by entering that code. See, #1.1. This information is important.

Baseband = modem or radio installed in the firmware and can differ.

You will need to carefully and thoroughly read through the guide which will take you, step-by-step, through the process of correctly identifying your phone's firmware and instructions on how to manually update it using Odin.
