Root [Help] Deleted Launcher

hello, I'm really new to this whole root stuff, I've had my galaxy prevail rooted for a few months and i've been messing with the internal storage because i only seem to have 20 mb free with all bloatware ect removed, while cleaning stuff out i accidently removed launcher apk and now my phone is just a blank screen with the status bar. i have all my backups on titanium backup but its all on the sd card is there a way for me to recover my phone from the titanium backup on my sd card? if not how do i fix my phone? Please dumb it down for me as best you can :).

I did the one click root, Android 2.3.5 (not the new FA19 update)

If you have CWM and a CWM backup, boot into recovery and restore your backup. If not, re-flash. That would be the easiest method.

Are you on Ctmod? Cause if so you can flash one of my themes to get Zeam back it has the launcher on it and you would have to restore in CWM. Or download a launcher from your PC. That may work.
 
While at the blank screen, long-press the search button. Hopefully you well get a search box, if so, search play store. And dl a launcher... ??? ... ...

I have clockworkMod, like i said i'm noob to this stuff, dumb it down ;) please and thanks for the help so far.

That "giant ass saw thing" looks like one of the huge saw things in the Call of Duty Black Ops Zombies "Moon" Map... Idk if ya know what I'm talkin about, but it looks just like it... lol...

Here are some steps outlined that you can follow.

1. Download -

  1. PREVAIL_M820_FA19_Rooted_CWM
  2. CTMod 3.3
2.
1. Download and unzip the file.
2. Install the Samsung USB drivers (if you dont have them already)
3. From a powered off phone, put phone in Download Mode by holding Vol down, Camera Button, and Power button until the Yellow Downloading message appears
4. Plug phone into USB port
5. Open Odin, you should see a yellow box with a com number
6. Select SPHM820.ops file and the PHONE.tar, and PDA.tar in the appropriate Boxes
7. Click Start

When Odin says reset and the phone reboots the process is done, you do not have to wait for Odin to say pass, that does not work

You need to select the phone.tar if you want to flash your baseband verion
You should not have to flash the BOOT.tar, unless your phone is really messed up

IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS

unplug sdcard
try again
unplug battery
try again
try different USB port
try again
try different USB cable
try again
try different computer
try again

How to install CTMod:
➯ Copy the zip to your SDCard
➯ Boot into ClockWorkMod
➯ Make a backup
➯ Select "install zip from sdcard"
➯ Select the CTMod.zip
➯ Select "yes"
➯ After its finished press back
➯ Select "reboot system now"

i never had zeam launcher 0_o atleast i don't think so, i've never heard of it until now. I followed the 1 click root a few months ago and haven't added any roms or anything. I have no idea how to flash or anything.. like i said dumb it down for me i'm confused. I have a launcher2.apk saved in my SD card but i don't know how i would get that to work?

non of my soft keys do anything when i hold them, the home button vibrates when i hit it
 
I've you've used the play store market thingie recently, try holding down the Home button and getting to it from the recently used apps. If that works then just install any home launcher.

[edit] I see you tried it already. Good luck though.
 
Way simpler

Flash it in cwm like above

Place on sd card
Boot into cwm
Select install zip from sd
Select choose zip from sd
Select 'zeaminstaller'
Select yes
Reboot

Well yeah, if ya can't get the phone to do anything when holding the softkeys or long pressing the screen then I would prolly just boot into CWM and either restore a backup or just re-flash Ctmod or whatever ROM you had prior to deleting your launcher apk.... Hope ya get it figured out...

Sometimes we (I) tend to over complicate things... :rolleyes: lol.
Bloods apkinstaller is SO useful :D

I edited my previous post with better instructions. You do not extract it.
When in recovery, does it say clockwork mod recovery?

It sounds like you still have the stock recovery...
 
you have to select the "choose zip from SD" option... Not the "update.zip" option.... eeerrr whatever the other one that I never use is...


In the middle of typing this... I had the same thought as you... Stock Recovery.... Sounds like he's just running completely Stock rooted...

Before step 3 do this -

1. Power off Phone.
2. Hold volume rocker up + power button till is says "android" then it boots up in a special menu then proceed (Background has a Hat with an arrow).
 
it's stock rooted yea, no roms or anything. I did one click root. my only options are reboot system now, apply sdcard:update.zip , wipe data. wipe cache.
 
The simplest solution is to log into the market on your computer, pick a launcher and install it. It will be sent OTA and installed in 5 minutes or so. Wait that long then reboot.
Then you can get the original launcher from backup and switch back if that's what you like.
