Help! Did a hard reset without UNrooting

USN12

Newbie
Hello all,

I was not sure if this should be in a different section of this forum or not, but Ill go ahead and post it here.

I have a galaxy S2 from TMobile, and was running ICS and wanted to upgrade to JB and I figured a hard reset would unroot me.

As I soon found out, it would not... My phone is totally useless now. When I turn it on, there is only a wallpaper screen with no icons. Is there any way I can fix it?

Please let me know!

Thank you

What if I wanted to root a jelly bean phone? Also, how can I UN root my phone?

Rooting Jellybean is very easy. After you odin the jellybean update, use Odin to install TWRP and let TWRP root you. See this post.

To unroot, you use Odin to install the stock rom.

I'm having trouble accessing the screen on step two, (where you press both volume buttons). My phone is powered off when I do this and not connected to a computer.

So you are powered off, you have Odin running on your PC, you hold both volume buttons, then plug in the usb cable. What happens when you do that?

Yes it worked. Was the JB ROM file I downloaded the same one I would have received had I upgraded via Kies?

Atma,

I read your post on how to root JB, but I'm unsure what you mean by installing the recovery file via Odin. I searched this forum and google but can't find directions on how to do it.

I only want to root my JB phone to delete the bloatware. How can I do this?

Also, what other advantages to root are there? What do you use root for?

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate it!

Hi USN. Sorry for the late reply.

If you haven't figured it out yet, you download the TWRP Touch Recovery 2.5.0.0. .tar file. Then you use Odin to install it the same way you installed the Jellybean stock rom. You can just follow the Odin guide and use the TWRP file instead of the stock rom file.

How to get to recovery: Power off the phone, Hold both volume buttons and the power button at the same time. When the phone vibrates, let go of the power button but keep holding both volume buttons. In a few seconds you should be in the recovery menu.

In TWRP, Select Reboot, then System, TWRP will tell you that you are not rooted and ask if you want to root. Use the Swipe bar at the bottom to root then follow the instructions to install SuperSu.

After you are rooted, you can use Titanium Backup to delete bloat. Make a backup in TWRP recovery first in case you delete the wrong thing. I rooted so I could do things like that. Rooting gives you more control over your phone. Another advantage is being able to do backups of your whole system in recovery.

Take a look at You've went and rooted the phone. Now What???. That may be helpful to you and also http://androidforums.com/galaxy-s2-t-mobile-all-things-root/627099-guide-root-rom-sgh-t989.html

Since we are getting into rooting a lot, I'll move this to the All Things Root forum. :)
