Root HELP dk28 tethering issue on Epic

Hi! I'm new here anddd it's my first time posting - here's my question...

I just rooted / upgraded to 2.2 on my Epic using DK28 from here: Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

I downloaded EVERY version of the free wifi tether app off Google Code found that is found here: Downloads - android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code

NONE of them worked, every time I open the application it says: NOT ROOT! Sorry but your kernel does not have all necessary features for running this application.

NOW HERE'S THE THING... I'm NOT a very technical person, I'm amazed I even got it upgraded to 2.2 - the only way I did is because of the simple instructions on this site:Samsung Epic 4G Android 2.2 Froyo – Manual Install Guide
I don't understand any of your Android / Epic / Rooting jargon, so you need to explain things to me in extremely simple terms - I'm not an idiot, just not great with this stuff in particular. So I'm sorry if I don't know what I'm talking about but I really need your help and need this explained to me as I'm also using a Sprint netbook and their wonderful $30 for 500mb doesn't last but a few hours if that. ALSO, please don't tell me to read through other threads - I have, I don't understand them, please just help me because trust me I've tried everything I can think of.

Other side problems if you can help me as well other than my main one above is that when I start the phone it endlessly says android.media.process (or whatever it is) is failing and asks me to force close? Then does it again immediately until I take out my sd card - I can put the sd card back in if the phone is already on and it'll take, but I can't view pics in the gallery nor will the camera work. I can however get to the pics through my files. Any suggestions?

Thank you guys in advance for your help :) Merry Christmas!!!

have you rooted your phone since doing the upgrade to 2.2? after doing that upgrade you will not be rooted and will need to root for wifi tether to work. you can root your phone here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388

i'm no expert myself, but that should get you able to use wifi tether.

Thank you for replying - I guess I didn't realize this hadn't rooted it, I may be an idiot.

Anyway, on that note - I've been trying to root it now and am EXTREMELY frustrated. Every website / video explaining this "one click" root has completely different instructions and one site that describes it as being very simple leaves out half the steps. Either way here's where I'm at...

I've downloaded all the one click root stuff... My phone is a guessing game as to whether or not my computer will recognize it and connect whenever I connect it, so that's a rare one but anyway assuming I can connect it I read in these "simple" instructions to unzip everything from the one click root into the SDK folder... I'm sorry but I don't know wtf the SDK folder is so I googled it and found and downloaded the SDK software... Then the SDK software says it won't run without the Java JDK software - so I downloaded that. Got it installed, SDK software still isn't picking it up and that's where I'm stuck. I found another contradictory set of instructions on some page saying that I have to download the 32 bit JDK software regardless of my OS (which is 64) cause that's what the SDK is coded in, but where I downloaded the JDK software from Oracle it doesn't distinguish between either one and I can't find anything specifically 32 bit? Other sets of instructions on rooting say NOTHING about all this SDK JDK crap and just tell me to open "run" type in "cmd" and type in the SDK directory etc which obviously doesn't work and so they just skip all of this and pretty much every site I go to assumes everyone on the planet has an inherent knowledge of SKD / JDK blablabla and none of them attempt to explain where any of these things are or how to use them. Maybe I'm an idiot but this is extremely frustrating... I swear I know my way around a computer fairly well too... Anyway thank you in advance for your further help...
