Help Help: Error during firmware update (Official Samsung update)and Kies won't recognize it now.

Anduiril

Android Enthusiast
Here is the situation (I haven't found this exact problem on the forum yet). I updated my phone with the Samsung update to Jellybean with no problems (for those who know me, RL has been too busy to mess with this phone and now I'm kinda regretting that:(). But when I went to upgrade my friends phone tonight I ran into a problem. After about 2% of the software download, my laptop gave me an "Error occurred. Stop Download" message and I had no choice but to stop. I retried the Simple Download again but got the same thing, this time the program locked up and stopped running and ended up locking up the computer. Now the phone will only show Error found during firmware update. Use Kies Recovery. I downloaded Kies to my laptop but it won't do anything with the phone. I downloaded Odin 3.187 and tried putting the original software via the PDA option on Odin but it keeps failing.

I found this link ([ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-D710BST GC01 (GC01 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Root/Stock)) in another thread but I'm not sure if it will work in this situation. I think that the phone is in download mode but I'm not sure (I haven't done much with this phone so I don't know).

I'm going to be working on the phone again in the morning and time is a factor. I need to get the phone working again, preferably stock. So here is what I know and don't know:
A) The phone is not bricked, the computer sees it as a device but not as the phone.
B) I don't know what state the phone is in because both options for power on come up with the same screen.
C) The phone is only a few months old so IF there is a known hardware problem that may cause this it could be sent back but we all know what a hassle that can be and nothing has been done except this Samsung software so no problems there but avoided if possible.
D)IF I have to I can download ADB software again and push the correct software to the phone but it's been a long time since I've done that and I don't remember the exact details as to what I need to do. (This is a friends phone so I'm trying to get it done ASAP).

Thanks in advance for all the help. I'm sure this will help someone else out in the future and I'll post whatever I figure out.

Good detailed summary. :)

Try: Recovery mode: Volume+ and power, keep holding (about 30 seconds)

If recovery loads correctly the phone should be salvageable.

?

Update: I cannot get the phone into recovery but after trying it I am now able to get into Odin mode again. I downloaded the Simple update tool again(maybe the first one was corrupted) but no luck.

If you are able to put the phone in download mode then do a one click install of the full restore for GC01 from here:
[ROM][ODIN][TAR]SPH-D710BST GC01 (GC01 Modem/Kernel/ROM - Root/Stock)

Download the exe (the one labeled restore) to your laptop and run the file to extract the folder with the self contained installer in it. Do not have Kies running. Run that installer then put your phone in download mode, and then connect your phone to the laptop's USB 2.0 port (3.0 gives problems) via the cable. When you see the com port on the installer light up, hit the start button on the installer.

I'm downloading it now (taking forever). I did notice that it got to the same point as before when it gave me the error. It was in CACHE. Is there a hardware memory problem maybe?

Well my friends phone is now working.

We found out that from the error screen if you hold Home + Vol- + Power it will take you to the Odin update screen. We then used the link above and now his phone is running Jelly Bean.

Thanks for the help and I hope this saves someone else some headaches. Now I can finally get my morning (well afternoon coffee at this point)

When someone helps you don't forget to hit the 'thanks' button.

Now only is it a sign of respect but more importantly it shows future problem seekers a quick guide on how reliable a forum member's info should be.

Can someone help me?
I had problem same like Anduiril. I tried to update my samsung galaxy s2 using SimpleDownloaderTool (SPH-D710) from Samsung website. It's about 2% and the error occured. So I downloaded the ODIN Restore form RWILCO12.com but it doesn't work too.

What should I do to make my samsung work again? Thank's

Are you able to get into download mode? Also make sure you have the samsung drivers on your PC and do not use a USB 3.0 port (users have reported touble with using that). do a full restore one click install and not the nodata one.

Thank's for your advice. Yes I'm able to enter in download mode(Odin mode). I tried with USB port version 2.0 to running the same program but I'm still have the same problem. After boot and cache and the program show Fail again. What should I do for the next? Thank's before

Thank's codegerm for your advised. I tried again with an one click restore (download again from the link that you gave to me)but it doesn't solved the problem. So, I tried with flashing manually and it works. My Samsung running jellybean now. Thank you!

Hi, Elvis!

Maybe I couldn't catch up with you guys, or maybe just don't have enough info. I have the same problem as yours. Could you please explain what you meant by flashing manually and how did you do that. Thanks in advance.

Updating through Kies has shown to be problematic for several users. I don't recommend using Kies updating due to that.
