Root Help!! Evo 4g lte won't boot past bootloader and recovery!!!

Techy10

Lurker
Okay I've tried everything...I rooted my phone using the adb method and went to install a rom. Forgot to wipe after installing the rom and since then, this phone's been on the fritz!

I can boot into bootloader and into TWRP recovery...that's it! Most recently, I've tried to install MeanBeam (suggested since it is more up to date and Sense based), followed other forum suggestions, but nothing! The phone will not boot up. Normally, I'd be able to fix it myself but I guess every geek has their down days!:dontknow::dontknow: HELP PLEASE!!! :(:(:confused::confused:

And if it helps my bootloader reads as follows:

TAMPERED
UNLOCKED
JWEL PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.09.0000
RADIO-1.12.11.1210
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0015
eMMC-boot

I've read that since I am on S-ON, I have to fastboot the boot.img of these roms in order for them to boot up. The problem with that is: I cannot get this thing to "fastboot usb". I've tried two different cables and two different laptops. It will not connect. I bought this phone online and it did not come with the original cord! Am I completely screwed on this one???

Don't panic, all is not lost. Sounds like the problem you're running into is that the kernel isn't being flashed. You'll want to follow the instructions found here: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/606748-how-install-kernels-h-boot-1-15-a.html. Go with option 1. It seems complicated when you're looking at it, but it's easy as pie. "Fastboot USB" refers to when you boot up bootloader and select fastboot. You'll need to be there to flash the kernel. The cord you use most likely won't make a difference. I've only run into issues with 1 out of 20ish cords. Let me know how this goes, if this doesn't fix your issues there are other steps that can be taken. But fastboot flashing the kernel sounds like it will fix your problem.

The mini-SDK link in option 1 is broken, but I have tried this before. I have SDK on my computer (Windows 8 OS); this is how I flashed the recovery in the beginning. However now, whenever connecting the phone in fastboot to my computer, it says "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" and it never changes to "fastboot usb".

Yeah HTC Sync had me frustrated for HOURS. Until I found out what the issue was. I then uninstalled any drivers that said HTC or Android. I plugged my phone in and let Windows find the appropriate drivers. After that I had no issues fastboot flashing kernels. It's just kinda a pain that you need a computer when flashing a new ROM.

That's why I advise everybody gets s-off. It looks scary and difficult, but it isn't. I always say if I can do it, anybody can.

*insert scream here* I deleted all drivers and everything as you all suggested I do. I was really sure it was going to work because I thought about it and I've had to do it some before in the past. I still got the "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" and "Waiting on Device" in the cd window. I'm really close to just wiping my entire laptop and seeing if that works. (Had to do this once before also...) Please tell me there's another way...

Make sure you select the folder that fastboot is in. Hold shift and right click on it. Then select open "command prompt here". I think Lazy Panda or Dirty Racun has the drivers necessary for our phone. If you're still having issues try an Ubuntu LiveCD or just install Ubuntu on your harddrive. Everything Android goes easier on Ubuntu. No drivers needed.

I will check them for the phone drivers tonight. Also, I've heard about Ubuntu but never really took the time to look into. Any chance of a brief description or lesson of how to get it?

Ooooh!! I am excited about trying this...thank you so much. Quick question before I do...They say LiveUSB will NOT work. Has there been any known instances where it has worked?

Hmmm, I wasn't aware it didn't work. It was an option on LazyPanda when I got S-off. They must have pulled support for it.

I did a LiveCD when I s-off'd mine, it's really not all that bad. :)

And while you're trying out Ubuntu, go s-off. It will make your life a million times easier. I just installed Ubuntu on my computer instead of a LiveCD because Ubuntu isn't really that big and it's helpful to have around.

Okay guys...here's another issue! I know. I'm sorry....While trying to install Ubuntu on my Windows 8 laptop, I am getting this error about "You need to install the kernel first." What steps did you take to just install it on your laptop, Windsorclarenc???

I just went to the Ubuntu website, downloaded the .exe file and double clicked on that and followed the on screen instructions. It never mentioned a kernel to me.
