Help Help finding IMEI #

Mossey

Newbie
I bought a New HTC Wildfire S Model A501C from Virgin Mobile USA (Radio Shack) I have tried to retrieve the IMEI # by pressing *#06# from the phone keyboard. Doesn't work! Does the phone need to be activated first? or rooted. I am trying to unlock from network but without the IMEI I have no idea how to proceed!

You won't be able to unlock it if you are on VM USA. VMUSA is a cdma network and doesn't use sim cards like the gsm network. Your cdma phone has a MEID# to identify it on the network, while IMEI# is for identifying a phone on a gsm network. There might be a way of doing this, but i highly doubt it. If you were reading an article for virgin mobile saying that you can unlock it with the IMEI# and such, it must have been for VM in another country where VM is on the gsm network.

I know your right, but what I don't get yet is I have seen many CDMA phones unlocked. I am a VM Canada prepaid customer amd my Samsung cheapy has no Sim card, and a CDMA phone but now a lot of their new phones have got sims. I bought a new smart phone HTC Desire, Chinese copy, with dual sim and a IMEI # that VM website said could be used. Bought sim card &tried to activate, but no go. Customer care said it needed to be a CDMA phone. So had a friend buy me a WFS VM A501c in the USA and now customer care canada says no go,because it don't have a sim. I am lost! Can anything be done?
