Can I just remap the camera button to something else so I can use cwm

that would require you to take the device apart, to remap it somewhere, other than that, no you cannot

The only remapping possible with the camera button is when you have more than one camera app installed on the phone. Then it MAY ask you, depending on the cam app installed, which app you would like the camera button to be associated with.

There are apps that allow you to remap your 4 hard keys but nothing for the camera button

I think the "Camera ICS" app lets you set the volume keys to whatever you want, including the shutter button, maybe give that a try.

this doesnt work, as cwm needs the camera button to select parts of it, if koush can get the touch cwm working for the DX, we will never run into this problem

A few devices have TWRP, also a touch-screen recovery app. Too bad the X isn't one of them.
