help formatting/clearing cache from android

sirlinx

Lurker
Need a huge help from the community if possible, I've googled this tremendously but I can't seem to figure out how to wipe clean my android.

First I should perhaps tell you guys what's wrong with my android. It's an old milestone (version 1), it serves me well and I don't want to get a new phone since I'm broke at the moment. Three days ago everything was running smoothly and I was downloading some apps from google market (gps apps) when all of the sudden it started to act weird. Sometimes when I unlock the device and start an app it starts to hit all sort of keys by itself and change windows, sometimes it dials a phone number from my contact list even though I didn't do that, if I hit the home button it doesn't work, and some keys in the keyboard won't work either (ex. if I hit the O it will register the I, etc). This happens every other time I unlock the device, sometimes it will work normally and then all of the sudden it'll start to act weird again.

So I formatted the SD Card and restored the device to the factory settings, but this did not get rid of the problem.

while googling I thought it might have been a virus, but I've since installed 4 different anti-virus programs and none of them said it was infected.

I've heard something about clearing the cache, if I hit volume down+the camera key while powering up the device it will bring up a DOS looking windown saying the following:

Bootloader
90.78

Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable

but when I connect the USB cable it does nothing and no new drive appears on my pc. I was wondering if someone knows how to clear the cache using this method, or if perhaps know what kind of glitch this may be, if it's a virus and how to get rid of it. I'm losing functionality in my android and I've heard of stories about people getting their android locked out to the point where they can no longer use it. any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm running out of ideas.

Welcome to the Forums, sirlinx!

Did I understand you to say that you have done a Factory Reset on the phone?

If so, I believe you have cleared the caches and need to look elsewhere for the solution.

It looks like you have covered the likely scenarios though, so I am at a loss as to what to suggest.

thanks for the feedback dustwun77!

I've gone to 'privacy' and set it to 'original settings', not sure if this is the same as 'factory reset', I've heard of different types of settings so I'm a bit confused, mine is in portuguese :p

would this be the same? if not, could you let me know how to do a factory reset?

In Portuguese? :)

I guess you speak it? If not, you can probably change the language the phone is in too!

I believe you have found it though. Does it look like it is straight out of the box, the way it would have come new?

I am not exactly sure what device you actually have, but a lot of times you can go to the maker's website, under support, and get a download of the user manual. That should give you some background.

We have a bunch of phones here too. Do you see yours? Android Phones - Android Forums

If so, see if one of your fellow users can help with your questions. Ask away! :)

edit: Actually, I see we have a bunch of Motorola Milestones. Hope you find yours!

Sounds to me like you have wiped it though.

yeah, that's what I did, it looks like it would when it came straight from the box, so I'll keep on searching. Thanks again for your input, I'll check those milestone forums as well!
