Root Help! Home button broken

My Droid X's home button is broken and I need to get into recovery (currently in SBF bootloop). Any ideas on how to do this? I'm out of warranty as I bought my Droid X on launch day and I still have 3 months to go until I can buy a new phone.

If you plug the phone into the PC, does it register at all? You can reboot into recovery via ADB, but obviously the phone would need to register with the PC first.

I can re-SBF it since I can go into the bootloader as my volume and camera keys still work. But what do you mean "register" with my PC? It doesn't show up as a USB device if that's what you mean. It's stuck in a boot loop so all I see is the Motorola logo and the Droid eye over and over again.

Edit: ADB does not recognize the Droid X during the boot loop or in the bootloader.

I'm not sure what you can do then. Using ADB is the only alternative method I know of that can boot you into recovery without the key combination on boot. :(

3 months? My 2 years are up in March, yet I can upgrade now.

Galaxy Nexus came out today, go see what you can do. :D

Aw, whaaat. My early upgrade is in March; bought the Droid X at launch.

I took my phone into a Verizon store and they couldn't fix it. They basically were trying to do what I was trying to do: get into Android recovery using power button + home key. But the home key doesn't work so... yeah. They ended up telling me to add a new line to my family account and let my old line run out until August which is when the contract expires (This will cost me $80).

I'm thinking about getting the Galaxy Nexus for $190 through Wirefly, but not 100% sure yet.

EDIT: Would it be possible to replace the broken key?

I bought mine at launch as well.

When I check online VW says "discount available" and the Galaxy Nexus shows as $299.99.

You are correct. I found my receipt email dated July 16, 2010 (3 a.m.).

I guess I knew 2 year contract and saw "upgrade available in March" and made the rest up. :D

MYTH BUSTED!
I dont know what my phone future is. Im in contract with my GF and its starting to look like she isnt going to be my GF for much longer.... Add in the fact that the contract and switching to VZW was her idea so its all in her name. Ditch the woman and who the hell knows what happens to the phone.

You are, as we say, SOL my friend. A broken home button is a phone killer when you need to flash something or reset yer phone. Best of luck to you.

Verizon called me and told me the earliest I can upgrade is beginning of February.

Looks like I'll be spending a good month and a half with my old pink RAZR.

You gotta love how VZW goes by the book when it comes to upgrades but they sure don't use that book when it comes to charging you for crap.
