Root HELP how do i tether using my windows pc?

my friends phones pick up my tethering 4g speed from my esteem but not my pc? how do u get tethering with my pc. THANKS

Since the phone doesn't have a tether app built into the os. You'll need to use a third party one.. At least that's how I've done it, using easy tether from the market.

I don't know how otherwise. Lol

Get PdaNet. It does not even require root, though I guess that's not an issue in this part of the forum LOL

Seriously though, I was using this before I decided to root my phone and it was an easy setup and worked great, I tried a couple of others (don't remember which) and they set up proxies and other such things that gave me web access but not things like FTP and Yahoo Messenger. This gave me full internet access, hard to even tell I was connected through the phone instead of my cable connection unless I downloaded a big file.

Hes saying his friend is tethering off the poster's Esteem, so I'm assuming he already has a tethering app. Metro started blocking people from tethering a couple months ago. It seems linux systems are unaffected (since android is linux)
You can use Ubuntu no problem, and I remember reading somewhere here that you can change some setting on your browser to get through the block, but don't ask me how as I haven't the slightest idea how.

I had forgotten that issue, PDAnet has a setting that does something that takes care of it!:)

what app are you using? I use "Wireless Tether for Root Users" from muller, lemons, buxton and it works great for me, no issues.

for windows you going to have to change the ua on your browser. One easy way of doing this is by using firefox and they have a plug-in that you can get. Heres what I'm talking about : https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/user-agent-switcher/ . Also when your get the wifi tethering app your going to have to enable access control. Metro PCS has gotten a little bit smarter since this phone has come out by accessing your phone. Their MAC address should come up and that will keep you from accessing the internet. All you do is while your in access control, you just unclick the box of the MAC address thats not yours. You'll understand what I'm talking about when you get to that point.
On a side note I dont see how this is exactly legal for metro pcs to be monitoring our phones like this. By tethering we are not following the rules however that does not give them the right to access information like that.

Its much the same as somebody using your internet w/O your perm. You can see what devices are on your connection, and so can they. You have the option to screw with them by flipping their monitor upside down (which is always fun) and they just block the unapproved device

I understand that but to access my connection they would have to find out what my password is which is not easy by any means.
