Help Help - How to completely backup a Incredible

Hi and thanks. What is the best method/program to back up EVERYTHING on my Verizon HTC Incredible? I am going to have to hard reset and I want this to be as simple as possible. And it is my wife's so if I lose something, I am in BIG trouble.

Help...? Simple solution please?

No can do. The wife is performing and she has NO interest in rooting at all. Just a simple back up and then hard reset and restore.

She really needs this to go smoothly. She has a ton of work things on her phone.

Help?

If you want to backup everything, you will need to root. I believe there are some options like My Backup pro (I think that's the name) that let unrooted users backup some things, but they are FAR less comprehensive than the root options.

Back up as much as you can to the cloud. What specific things need to be backed up? because most apps that store data are automatically backed up with your account.. ie most calender/to do lists, your contacts can be exported to the sd card or to google, texts can be backed up with apps that are available in the market (sms backup). Most apps can be put onto the sd card, which is not wiped during a factory reset.

Factory resets are pretty painless nowadays.

Rooting is SOO simple. Backing up when rooted is SOO simple. There's really no reason not to if her demands for a back up are that high.

I appreciate the desire to root the phone. But it is my wife's phone and she has no desire. She just wants a cool phone, be able to back up the data, and use stock applications.

It just seems crazy the phone designers want you to put *everything* on your phone and then provide no easy way to back it up.

This whole gingerbread mess with Verizon has really soured her on Android.

I agree, I had a Palm Treo that came with Palm Desktop software. You plugged in the phone, clicked the sync button and it was all backed up to the computer.

I don't understand why Android makes it so difficult. We are set up for failure.

OMG...we came from a long line of Palm phones! LOVED THEM. Everything was so easy. Backup was a breeze and it backed up everything. And the calendar held my last 10 years of appointments with 2000 contacts with zero issues. Android cannot do that. Not even close.

You can root without switching to different software.

Android is extremely simple to back up.... Everything can be automatically sync to the cloud and/or can use htc sync to back stuff up to the computer.

I don't think you understand what is involved with rooting. She wants to back up her phone. She has to root to do a complete back up. We aren't lying to you about it and reminiscing about archaic devices doesn't prove anything either.

The root process itself is very easy for anyone that can follow directions. After root is done, you don't have to do anything but download Titanium and perform the back up. She won't loose any progress in her Angry Birds. Otherwise, she'll have to start over.

The Treo is the phone I used right before the incredible, it isn't archaic. By that standard, the incredible will be considered archaic in the next year or so (stated in a calm soft voice, I'm not angry, just puzzled).

I just re-read sdrawcab's reply about HTC sync. I don't know anything about it but am about to research it.

I remember it was important I didn't have that before rooting the phone. I wonder if it's safe to install now that I'm rooted?
Does it back up everything including game stats?

I'm cloud resistent. I don't know who owns the cloud and I'm not sure I want to share all my info with them, or what the security level is.
For example, would the cloud make it easier for someone to clone my phone? I think I read that it would.

I'm not exactly sure everything that htc sync backs up, probably not game stats, but there are other apps in the market that back up game progress (i definitely know there is one for angry birds). Other games/apps may be linked with a user name or email address that you set up, so progress/data would be restored when you sign back in.

When you sync your info with the cloud, it goes to whatever company makes the app you are using. Every app you download is automatically synced with your gmail account for ease of reinstallation after a reset or getting a new phone.

Cloud synchronization is the way most companies are going, and in my opinion makes things very simple. I do factory resets every couple months and getting all my data back is always very simple.

As it comes to privacy etc, i personally don't keep anything on my phone that i wouldn't willingly show or share with people anyway. All phones can be hacked/cloned whether or not you are syncing with cloud services.
