Root HELP. How to use wireless tether on 2.2?

I need help getting wireless tether working. it shows that that its beaconing but when i search for it under wifi on my laptop nothing shows up. (My aunts phone)

Rooted Lg Ally with velocity V0.3, Turbo 4 kernel overclocked to 787 Mhz
