Root Help installing Cyanogenmod in Galaxy s3

Hi there,

Before start let me say congrats, it's a great forum you guys have going on here.

I have decided to install cyanogenmod on my Galaxy S3 canadian Bell. It already has
recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.7-d2att installed. For that I used Odin3v185 and the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.00

I have wiped all the data and cleaned the cache with CWM so there's no need to backup.

I wanted to install CM since always but only now that my phone started giving this problem "unfortunately setup wizard has stopped" I decided to go ahead. I haven't been able to find a step by step guide for my particular case, I know its's as simple as "skip step 1 to 5 in this guide" but I am not very involved with technology and will need a hand for sure.

Appreciated!

I haven't tried installing Cyanogenmod yet, the only thing that i have done on this phone is install Clockworkmod in order to (successfully) root it.

It sounds like you got a working recovery going which is the hard part. From there, I've only downloaded CyanogenMod to the SD card, booted into recovery, and flashed the ROM.

I forgot to add that you probably want to do a backup first.

Then all you do is select the CyanogenMod ROM and flash it.

Should not give you any problems.

Theres nothing to backup, I wiped all the data trying to fix the original error.

I'm concerned about something like this if i choose the wrong version or something, It's just something i don't see clearly:

WARNING: Firmware update notice
CM10.1 and newer are not compatible with ICS bootloaders on this device. Update your device's firmware or you will get assert failures in recovery.

Or....

For CM 11, this carrier specific device has been deprecated in favor of a new unified device: d2lte. Please visit the d2lte page for information on building and installing CyanogenMod 11. This page is for < CM 10.1 or >= CM 12.1

It is just something I don't comprehend, no idea if this will be a problem or not

So you don't what to use CyanogenMod that is greater than 10.1.

I don't know what to make of the message in post #8.

As far as backing things up, you do have a lot to back up. You want to back up the /system partition. That way if something goes wrong, you can restore your device back to the way it is now.

Given the warning in post #8 you really can't go with 10.1. You have to update your firmware and I can't help you with that because that depends on the phone manufacturer and your carrier.

Maybe someone else can show you how to update your firmware.

You should do it with CWM.

I'm going to reiterate that if you got the warning in Post #8 then you should not install this ROM.

If there's no other problem i'm ok with CM 10. Can that be done? I already downloaded this one: cm-10-20121011-EXPERIMENTAL-d2att-M2

I am not able to use the phone, is there a way to update the firmware without using the phone? For example, i'm pretty sure that debugging mode is enabled but i couldn't tell for sure and i cant aces the setting tab on the phone.

Ok, just a couple more of silly questions.
Sammobile doesnt have firmware for the i747. Can I use the i9300?
Any idea what kind of trouble i can face if i decide to install CM 10?

Don't install the firmware for the I9300 on the I747 because they have different processors.

If it were me, I'd want to see what XDA developers said about the firmware because I'd want the latest version of CyanogenMod that I could have.

Update: IT WORKED!
I still don't know what issues i will find (so far can use the camera) but now i'm able to use the phone again with CM10. Thanks everybody for the help, I will follow the suggestions and go to XDA. It'll be a pleasure to hang around here in the future.
Appreciated!
