Help! Is this a serious security problem?

Long press on the notification and you'll see it's from ES File Explorer. I've been thinking I should remove this anyway since they keep adding crap I don't want.

I had ES File explorer installed on all my devices and have for a very long time. It's sad to see such a good app deteriorate to the point that you have to remove it.

Seriously... with an app such as this, because of the large amount of privileged access it requires, if you can't trust it 100% you shouldn't let it anywhere near your device.

This is a shame, as i really used to like this app... but now its all over and I've had to find other apps to do its job(s) :(

I'll still keep using ES File Explorer in fact I paid for the Pro version, it's no harm, it's actually alerting you of what app's require what permissions, it's part of their built in cleaner I think, I haven't seen that message on the pro version yet.

The only reported problem with ES and ES Pro is accessing cloud data. They appreently sent user names and passwords for cloud accounts back to their China facility.

A reasonable clean up app is ...
SD Maid – System Cleaning Tool – free version
SD Maid Pro - Unlocker – unlock paid

An esvellend alternative for file management ...
X-plore File Manager – manipulate device and cloud folders and files
... I personally don't like it user interface.

How is Astro File Manager in anyones opinion? Better than or just as bad as ES? I remember it being awesome back around cupcake and using it then...

I liked that it has a Facebook media sync option, like cloud sync.

Okay decided on Solid Explorer, just wish there was a constant toolbar at the bottom of the screen like the classic version has or I wish I could colorize the tree address bar where that way it'd stand out more making me realize to swipe on it more, instead of it being blended in with the top pane header.

I use ES File Explorer, and been using it since my first android phone. Useful in my phone and tab. Same alerts flooded my notification today and i just cleared the setting where it says notify for app permissions. The notifications are now gone.

If you use ES you should be aware of the security problems. Check out this post. Scroll down and near the bottom is a couple of links with more information about ES and why it is no longer recommended.

Honestly I'd get rid of clean master as well. Cheetah mobile is notorious for malware apps. I guarantee if you search the site for cheetah mobile you will come across many threads telling you to uninstall anything made by them.

Also, as far as clean master or similar type apps, take a look at these threads as you might change your mind about using them:

The only one of those I use is 360 Security, I know I should probably use CCleaner, but it doesn't have as many cleaning options as 360 and SD Maid Pro also only cleans so much stuff.

But just curious how is All-in-One Toolbox (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=imoblife.toolbox.full) I used to use it.

360 Security is not doing anything to increase security, just the opposite. It should be considered to be malware and uninstalled immediately. CCleaner is overly aggressive, sometimes messing with files with ugly results. If you really must mess with using a cleaner app - and you don't, I never use them - SD Maid is the best IMHO.

Just another Jack-of-all-trades app that does a lot of stuff that does not need to be done, and should not be done for best performance. Pass.

Please, read this and the links in it:

So with that said I'd take it AIO Toolbox is the safest as in terms of no dirty business going on that nobody knows of. LoL

I have no idea if it's "the safest as in terms of no dirty business going on that nobody knows of." I didn't look into it. Doesn't matter, you shouldn't use it.

You just gotta resist the urge to fool with stuff like AIO Toolbox. Sounds good, like it oughtta be useful, but it's not. Seriously, read that post I linked in my last reply and the links in it. Then you'll understand.

Not
I have a notification that I do not recognise: "Slides requests sensitive permissions". It is in red with an icon that is a red key on a white background in a red triangle. When I clicked on it it seemed to start an app analysing my phone and SD card memory.

I freaked out, powered off the phone immediately and whipped out my SD card. I powered it back on and this notification reappeared.

Any idea what this is and is it safe? If not, how do I get rid of it?

Samsung Galaxy S4, Android 5.0.1
Not sure if you still have ES File Explorer installed but to me it still works just fine. The notifications DO look scary but it's just a function of the app to let you know there are apps requiring permissions that you may not want them to have.

To stop the notifications just press the hamburger icon on the top left inside the app and press Settings. Go to Notification settings and untick Notify me of app permissions.

This conversation is focused more in how annoying ES Explorer's notifications are, or what is the best file explorer than to identify if those sensitive permissions true or not!

All this time that we had ES Explorer and ingore those permission, is it true that these apps and games had access to our personal information or is it just bloatware by ES?

I think it's more important to avoid such malicious acts (if the notifications are true) than ignore the warnings.
